There never were many blonds in the English football team or anywhere else.
If you could find anyone who had an indisputably "English" pedigree going back say a 1000 years,then they would still be about 80% brythonic Celt,or Welsh basically. The Anglo-Saxons,even assuming they were predominantly blond,were a relatively small immigrant group who quickly interbred with the much larger surviving native population.
