Imagine if Post Office Telecommunications had never been privatized in the first place. Right now half the nation would still be on a three-month waiting list for a phone connection to complain that they hadn't received the dial-up modem they ordered.

I can see why the idea appeals to Corbyn. The most effective way of cracking down on exploitative capitalists like Google or Amazon or Betfair is to be in a position to control which websites the population is allowed to access.

After the GPO had paid for Britain's telecommunications network then the phone said was spun off and sold at a knock down price to the city. At one time BT was making over  £1000 a minute profit  no way on earth could the tories allow a publicly owned and ran industry be so successful, that would have made a mockery of the notion  that publicly/nationalised industry are failures and a burden to the tax payer

Those were the days....when daytime calls were so expensive, you had to wait till 6pm to make phone calls.

Obviously it took a while for people to get their phone connection we were still building the network. Just think how much time and money it cost to connect a single farm house or remote cottage? Next time you are in the countryside count the telegraph poles, it wasn’t just your phone we had to connect it was everyone else’s in order to make a universal service or it would been  pointless having a phone in the first place.
Up until New Labour the post office/GPO was a utility and like all utilities Gas ,Water, Electric it takes a lot of time and money to build the infrastructure, ask yourself this question would these private companies with their city money have paid for it, or would they have just waited for the GPO and tax payer to have completed the job first?

Saving a few quid each month isn't going to make me vote Labour.

I cancelled the copper broadband 2 years ago as I live in a good 4G area. With 5G now being introduced who the hell will be using BT in 10 years time?
