This is not really helping anyone, men and women are supposed to complement each other not compete???????

Or do the BBC think men should be banned altogetherShocked

I've noticed a lot more women wearing the old war uniforms at football games

The womens match yesterday had an all women war hero at the front

Didn't the men fight in the war now then? women need to realise this isn't for their benefit, you too like the men can go to far away places and get yourself blown to bits... for queen and country, sir!!

There were women heroines in the Spy Networks...and they should be honoured

As for the business of fighting the war, well that was the men

But our women supported our men,  they worked in factories building weapons, so have to be credited

The way the BBC are going we will soon find the women did all the fighting in WW1 and WW11 as well...

Men did not take partLaugh

This weekend we've also had the obligatory "It wasn't just white people who served Britain in the World Wars" free lecture, just in case there was one person left in Britain who had never heard of the Commonwealth forces.

I even heard some appalling comments implying that the contributions of service personnel from the colonies have been "airbrushed out of the history". Ludicrous statements that needless to say went unchallenged.

The Ghurkhas helped us keep Japan out of India..

I think it is the SLEDGEHAMMER approach by the BBC which gets up peoples noses

I think it's mentioning it at all that gets up people's noses. Certainly the type that posts here anyway.

I remember reading 40 years ago about 'foreigners' fighting for good old blighty - particularly in the desert.
Large numbers of commonwealth troops. Huge numbers of Indians there and against Japan.

I have always been amazed at South Africans fighting there and then finding out half the world had a go with all sorts of divisions.  Brazil even had a division in Italy with the 8th army.

I thought a fair amount of this was generally known.

It still makes me wonder why they would fight for us but then who would want to be further in the mire re japan  -

better the devil you known than that lot of maniacs.

We were lucky to have them.

The Gurkhas have been magnificent servants to this country, for the best part of two centuries. Loyal to the Crown.

During the last dark days of the Brown Government, some of the Gurkhas wanted the right to settle in Britain. They would have lost that battle had it not been for Joanna Lumley's superb intervention that so shamed and humiliated Labour.

You see, Labour doesn't like the brave Gurkhas and their loyal service to the Crown very much. WRONG TYPE OF DIVERSITY. Labour prefers foreigners who practice Grooming, FGM, Honour Killing, Beheading People Who Dislike Peaceful Religions.... and who vote Labour, usually by post.

I remember that alun

It amazed me at the time...if Ghurkhas had not earnt their place in this country I do not know who had?

They were in the Falkland as well..well done Joanna Lumley

A lot of commonwealth troops died for us in both wars and not all white

One of the nastiest campaigns of WW2 involving non-British forces was that in Syria and Lebanon in 1941. A British-led force of Indians, Australians, Free French, Jordanians, Czechs and Jewish Palestinians fought a bloody conflict against ... the French. There were thousands of casualties on both sides, as the French attempted to support Rashid Ali's uprising in support of the Nazis in Iraq.

It's a campaign that's virtually forgotten now, but it shouldn't be, for all sorts of reasons (the bitterness of the fighting on land, sea and air; the global diversity of the Allied effort; the enthusiasm of way too many Frenchmen and Islamists for Nazi Germany).

Went to the local (West Brom) Memorial Day this morning. Quite a good turn out of, I'd estimate, 4,000. Quite noticeable that virtually everyone was white. That may have been down to another similar event at Smethwick (about three miles away) which has a high Sikh population. As normal it was quite moving and correctly observed.

Some young girl about 13 movingly read out an anonymous but well known poem:

Why do you march old man,
With medals on your chest,
Why do you grieve old man,
For those men you laid to rest,
Why do your eyes gleam old man,
When you hear the pupils blow,
Why do you cry old man,
For those days so long ago,
In misty fields of gossamer song,
In visions of distant times,
When young boys of tender age,
Marched for the distant lines,
We buried them in a blanket shroud,
Their feet all squashed in bracken,
In a gouged out grave,
In green grass of bracken,
I'll tell you why,
Because if it hadn't been for those apple blossomed youth,
You would never have no freedom at all.
