might be out ,might not be ;the sentence allows for flexibility

I'd have preferred him to hang

I read about this earlier today casemoney and thought that was a derisory sentence as well. He should have got life with a minimum sentence of 25 years. Such a shocking murder and he knew full well what he intended to do, may he have as horrible time behind bars as possible when the other inmates know what he did to that poor girl.

Just on the news now. Judge said 'this has been the most appalling murder' and gives him 12 1/2 years. Disgustingly short and I'm not bothered about guidelines.

17 years is old enough to know what you're doing.  Sentence should have been anything from 50 years to death.

In a separate case, a learner driver deliberately drove into someone, killing them.  He's been given 5 years.

It is clear from the responses here that people in general have no clue about how courts work. Lybertyne takes the biscuit though Grin

The justice system is fücked.  My local paper has reports of drug dealers being sentenced and the chief copper is pleased when they get 2 or 3 years.  It's ridiculous.  Time to stop with the liberal nonsense.

Minimum sentence should start at 50 minus victims age, then the judge can add what he thinks is reasonable within guidelines.
The government should then release a hard hitting advert, showing a young man entering prison.
This is followed by young people having fun, a young couple kissing, getting married, having a baby, having fun on holiday etc,
interspersed with stark and violent scenes of the young mans life in prison.
The advert ends with an old man leaving prison, and an appropriate warning message.
Might hit home what one reckless act could lead to.

The govt need to legalise all drugs and build more prisons with longer sentences for people like this and other wânkers who terrorise people.
Breaking into people's houses & robbing people with weapons should get much sterner sentences too.

An appeal against the leniency has been made and it looks as if it will go back for examination.

I'd have thought this guy was a danger to the public and should be locked up for life.

I don't believe in the death penalty except for terrorist masterminds.  I'd feed them live to a hoarde of hungry pigs.
