I think you need the KB number of the missing update so you can download it manually.

If you find the update KB (knowledge base) number put it into this Micro$oft search-box here https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Faq.aspx

I am glad you have fixed it
XP was pretty good I thought but what can one do I still have one on xp but it isn't supported now is it?? works fine too |
|

When you say you went back to MS, if you mean you were on the phone to Microsoft, that sounds iffy. As far as I know, Microsoft does not do consumer support.

Win7 was excellent and much better than this 10 pish I have now. 7 support runs out in Jan, I think. Isn't there a risk of catching nasties if you don't update your stuff?
|
|
By:
i have never noticed any nasties but my xp one i hardly use and not for important stuff like my soccerball betting which I do in play a lot too so Very important that is is a secure balanced platform
unfortunately we are forced to it by the windows system unless one goes to apple |

If you install Belarc Advisor (free).
It will tell you of any missing updates and their KB numbers. |

I had a Win10 update a month or so ago and ever since my favs have been taking an age to load after a while & my laptop freezes for a few seconds. Anyone else had that?

as usual I really don't know what I am talking about - many have pointed this out - but you can go on line (carefully) and look at the ways you can speed up 10
one is simply wiping off all the junk you get at the beginning task bar and all the junk up on the left but go through this carefully even altering the type script - the type of typing print? that you see in front of you - is it font style or something - you see I do not even know the jargon but it worked on the ones I have on 10 just go on line and ask the experts |

Isn't there a risk of catching nasties if you don't update your stuff? Only things i ever update are my anti-virus/spyware stuff. And even that feels like a waste of time, as i cant remember the last time i had a virus warning pop-up, it must be a decade ago. My advise to everyone else though would be to update everything on a regular basis. ![]() |

Cheers Smar. I don't bother buying anti-v / s/w anymore cos Win Defender's the dog's on Win10, I think!

I've a new spare w10 Acer laptop (for emergency) which I only used to play promotion from 'billies' - only promos requiring w10. Then the other day after booting up there was a grey screen - no menus or nothing. A friend deleted unnecessary downloads and other stuff - laptop was as god as new eg quick start, etc; she also deactivated auto upgrade.
Next time I shall ask her to deactivate Cortina too - she's so annoying; locks one out after 60 secs. How unnecessary and stupid is that? Not sufficient time to go away and make a cup of drink even without having to log on again. |
