....it can lift our spirits, and tear at our emotions, but did you ever wonder from where does the stimulus come, from such as Justin Hayward,
and Sir Paul, (to name just nine) who conceive a whole plethora of original, and diverse songs, and melodies, with some even writing the score for a full orchestra?

I mean where do you start?
Do you, somehow achieve the basis of a tune, and then think of, and cobble up some lyrics, to go with it?

Or the opposite, think of some lyrics and then try to fit a tune around them?

Or, forget the lyrics and just do an instrumental....that should be easy, so here I sit, with my guitar and blank paper but what next?

The first hurdle is trying to clear my mind of "Brilliant Disguise" that's been on loop in my head, since yesterday!

Okay, just about killed that, but it's now been replaced by "The Sound Of Silence"!

Have to leave it there for now, but I've made a start with one chord, so just need a few more from somewhere, but then there's tempo
to worry about, and I don't think it's going to happen any time soon!!

Unfortunately only a few are blessed with the talent to write great songs that stay around for decades. It must be so gratifying to have written something 40 years ago that is still as popular as ever today.

If I ever won enough to give up working, I always swore I'd dedicate my life to finding out what makes a great "pop" song. I just find it fascinating. From the magic of the Beatles and Beach Boys, through different genres. Even today. I'm no pop fan but the likes of Shake It Off, Can't Stop the Feeling and Uptown Funk feel like potential all time greats to me that make me happy even if my usual taste is way to the left of the dial.

What is it in them that makes them push through. The dynamics? The rhythm? How the melody works against the harmony and what new chords they create and how tension is built up and released? There has to be an answer there somewhere.

I guess we should be truly grateful to all of these very special people and, when mentioning Sir Paul, lets not forget John and George!

Have to wonder how many more inventive creations we may have missed out on!

Truly special people, and I love George's uniqueness, and ditto John, who's album we, as a family, always played on Christmas day
as a tradition (don't ask me why} and don't ask why I now can't see through the tears!

The ultimate accolade to John, was having a set based around "Imagine" at The London Olympics, and the appreciation from the spectators,
when his photo was on the big screen!

Back in the 80s and impossible to believe it was so long ago, was the super inventiveness of "The Travelling Wilburys",
and their album created in a two week, laid back "jam session"....

Gone too soon are Roy, George and Tom Petty, but I'm just so glad to have the cd & dvd of that event!

I was watching my daughter playing in the RCS symphony last night.
That made me very happy. I am late to it but very much enjoying
classical music.
