Study shows that 63% of men are funnier than the average woman. This is on the Beeb website!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-50221046

This was conducted by the same people that showed 98% of lefties are funnier than their right-wing counterparts.

You don't need the beeb to clarify what everyone has always known. Just the way is.

As for the lefty part, that is a bbc survey!

Considering that only left wing comedians can get on TV these days, 98% must be rather disappointing.

Men need a sense of humour to cope with women imo

I have seen some funny women comediennes over the years to be fair

Richmal Crompton and Sue Townsend are two laugh-out-loud funny authors off the top of my head.

Did not know Richmal Crompton was a woman. Learn, new, everday etc.

You are not alone.

Most readers thought Richmal Crompton Lamburn was a man. So shy was she that she did not disabuse them of the notion, even as her anarchic, disruptive schoolboy, shown with his cap askew and tie undone, graced nearly 40 volumes of exploits.

...

With a certain amount of boring inevitability, Crompton's books were later attacked by critics for being irrelevant and middle-class, as if being able to write well was itself a liability. One reader points out that nowadays the books aren't a very easy read for preteens because they are peppered with words such as "epicurean", "apoplectic" and "discoursing", to which I say, "Look it up."

As it happens, I'm not sure that Miss Crompton's books really were intended for pre-teens. It's only when you re-read the books as an adult that you start to appreciate the shallowness and pomposity of the adults who bear down upon William.

Watching old episodes of QI before the PC brigade ruined it , there are some (not all) hilarious episodes.

The William books were my favourite by far at junior school, I didn't know Richmal was a lady either.

Not sure theres a decent female comedian about. despite being a fair few on the circuit

Virtually all fall in the Michael Mcintyre category i.e (not funny)

best i can think of Zoe Lyons off Mock The week

I’ve read all the Just William books many times. They are superb stories.

One moderately amusing thing about them: William often uses the offensive C word instead of “couldn’t” which is unintentionally hilarious at times.

Men are more competitive than women. Put a group of them together and they'll battle to be the alpha-male.  If you have a group of comedians they'll try to outdo eachother with funnier jokes.  It's all subconscious; they're not actively thinking "I must be top dog".

i think women find other women funny but men find it very difficult to laugh at women
on the other hand women are much more open to laughing at men and all men love a laugh so they'll also laugh at men
and thus, men are funnier than women
anecdotal to some degree  ^

it's possibly to do with comedy being of quite a lot of social value for men
so all men have to try and be funny to some degree to fit in and to gain social leverage

nearly everything that humans do is about being social

Could be something in that BM. As far as ordinary folk go not pro comedians I'd say men are mostly funnier. It comes from banter, putting sh*t on each other for a laugh, it's everywhere in the male world. Women don't do that to same level.
