I signed on for a couple of months in mid 2009

Giros were already finished by then.

At least they didn't have this Universal credit  thing at that time, sounds like a nightmare.

I've never claimed a penny in my life but got told I had to go when I left a job in early 2007 so did,got told I had to come back and sign on even though I didn't want any money can't remeber doing so might've went once more can't be sure.
My lasting memory of the jobcentre is seeing a bloke who I'd last heard got thrown off the top of a high building in Thailand (Cockney John) and the last time I'd seen him before that was playing darts for a 10er a game one Sunday afternoon strange what sticks in the memory.

Never. I was offered my first job a year before I graduated and when I left that I formed a company for a family business.

Work is much more fun than doing nothing if it is something you enjoy doing.

When you put out free money, it will get taken. Something needs to be seriously wrong with the people to not avail that opportunity.

I have a 12 hours a week job at a company as a website developer(since September). Last Sunday I showed up for my 5 hour shift. I was told I needed to bring my own laptop as all the systems are busy. I said I don't have a laptop. They said you have mentioned in your application that you do. I said that's impossible, show me the page. They said never mind and assigned me a system.

Yesterday they did the exact same thing. I asked them to show where i've given that I have a laptop. They said that's not their problem and I can go home. I came back home. On my profile they have marked that I was absent, when I wasn't. According to the law, they owe me the money for those 5 hours.

Today I have another shift. Im going to show up and work as normal. Tomorrow i'm going to give them a notice that I won't show up to work until they pay me for the 5 hours on Sunday when they sent me home. They will then be forced to pay me for all the shifts I miss until they have resolved the issue.

Now all the above nonsense is worth about 50 Euros minimum and about 100 Euro max. But its free money. All I have to do is write a letter, which will take me less time than i've wasted on writing this post. Is there any good reason why I shouldn't take this free money? I could buy an Intel share with it.

HOW LONG CAN THIS CORRUPT AND LAZY SOCIETY CARRY ON ?
Report UBLE/REGY October 28, 2019 1:47 PM GMT
It is the society we live in,...everything is about money

If we had a decent society where everybody was guaranteed a job for life we would not need to fiddle

As it is most people take what they can get

About ten Years ago I was on the dole for about six weeks and trust me them fookers made the Gestapo look reasonable.

Had 2 periods of long term unemployment. 1980s -- quite reasonable. 2000s -- JobCentre had turned into some sort of authoritarian but Kafkaesque place where you risked automatic penalties for unknown petty violations. No wonder they had to employ security guards.

1979 for a few weeks I think when I'd left the army. I know it's unfashionable to praise people but I found the Job Centre very helpful and friendly. They used to have different boards for different sectors of jobs where you could tootle around. If you fancied one you'd get the reference number for the job, go and see an advisor and they'd phone up there and then. Seemed like a good system to me.

I'd take the money unless you intend to stay at the company for a while as by so doing it wont help your standing there. I wouldn't want to stay at a company that has done that.

I have never signed on, I went straight to work when I left college. I saw 'I,Daniel Blake' a couple of years ago and I was literally sobbing in the cinema as to what the main character was made to do to get a few quid, absolutely heartbreaking and not a film I would ever care to watch again.
