I'm going to post over the coming weeks and months what I consider to be the best of this amazing band. If you don't like them by the spring, you never will.
One of the reasons I love Squeeze is their instrumental breaks - Jools' and other keyboardists' piano work and of course, Glenn's fantastic guitar solos. Anyway, two for the price of one here...
This is from the 'Cool For Cats' album and was the B-side to 'Up The Junction'. I suspect they're not too proud of the lyric now but they always point out that they were merely reflecting what they saw happening around them.
Next up is 'Pulling Mussels'. From the 'Argybargy' album and released as a single in 1980, it barely made the top 40 despite being featured on TOTP.
However, a firm fans' favourite and it sounds great live. Here is an energetic performance from circa 1981.

'Tempted' from East Side Story, sung by Paul Carrack, flopped as a single.
Here is Glenn Tilbrook with an acoustic version. Apparently, this is quite tricky to play on the guitar.

From the 'Some Fantastic Place' album, this is 'Everything In The World'.
Glenn is in great vocal form as the boys play live at a Texas record store in 1993.

have you ever hear 'elephant girl ' ? b side of when the hangover strikes, inferior version to one on bbc sessions. harpsichord on former, normal keyboards on second, much better, imo.

Yes - a great song. Another reason I love Squeeze - all those B-side gems which didn't make albums.
Here's another; Periscope. Guitar solo middle and end and a nice montage by the YouTuber.

I saw Squeeze live early 90's, I think it was in The Dominion Tottenham Court Road, they were excellent. 'Tempted' is my favourite song of theirs.

Was talking to Glenn earlier in the year. He was off on a tour in his beloved huge RV, doing it for free for Foodbanks (despicable, really)
He's also mainly trying to plug his son's (Leon) new band Spotify Link https://open.spotify.com/track/35tLyqSNGEpbvL0BRKV2d2?si=qG5gXpcPS-KYgNkWZmU9vA
As mentioned above a couple of times, he is a very skilled guitar player and self-mockingly believes he is critically under-appreciated for it.
Current Squeeze favourite tune for a few years is Chris's lyrically sublime 'If I Didn't Love You' Glenn's totally outside-the-box slide guitar solo shouldn't go, but somehow it does - brilliantly.

I watched this video, recorded in 2003, for the first time back in around 2011. There's a short interview preceding the performance where Glenn explains what the song is about.
What was quite uncanny was that the very next day I was listening to Adrian Durham on Talk Sport who somehow got taliking about divorce and said something along the lines of:
"...a mate of mine split up with his wife about 10 years ago. She took the two kids and moved to Australia. It took him ages to get over it. He's still not over it..."
I contacted AD and he did indeed confirm he was talking about Glenn Tilbrook.
