just started watching some of this ( was in states and looked for something semi familiar with whilst channel hopping ) , very impressed as loved british version, how do people rate one against other ?

Tried watching about 6 episodes of the American one .....thought it was terrible, never made me laugh.
didnt think i would like it ,but ended up watching nearly all of the episodes ..............suprisingly good as i dont normally like the yank comedy stuff
I can't watch it, I have given it a chance on a few occasions but it is not in the same parish as the British version which, to me anyway, is one of the best comedy series of all time.

The Finchy character is Todd Packer mm.
Can see why plenty don't like it as it takes a while to get to know the characters.
I enjoyed the US Office from about halfway the quality seemed to change for some reason and the best character between all the series' US and UK is Dwight imo but like I say it took time to take hold.
I think both versions are very good. The US version has more characters (Stanley and Phyllis are particularly good) and a lot more episodes. The UK version feels a lot more real
