I think it makes sense to start replacing organic matter with metal and plastic. You could have arms that can lift 10x what any human can lift now. Legs that enable you to run faster than currently possible. A pump in place of the heart. Cameras for eyes that can zoom in on distant objects. The one thing irreplaceable is the brain. One day we will be like the Cybermen from Dr Who, only perhaps without the malevolent streak. I think advanced life forms in the Universe are most likely to be mostly robotic in appearance with the organic brain secure inside.
