"A referendum in Switzerland is scheduled as early as May on ending the free movement of people from the EU. This would be the equivalent of the Swiss Brexit. Recently, relationships between EU and Swiss are on hard times as they are failing to reach an agreement with a treaty."

They already had a referendum on this issue in 2014 and voted to end free movement, so this is the second one. What's the point in it if the politicians are not going to implement it, or are they this time?

It's the same as in the UK with those pushing for a second referendum. Leavers would be utterly stupid if they took part, the brexit party and tories should boycott it and ask for a majority in a GE. Jo Swinson is already on record as saying she wouldn't support leave if it won again, SNP would be the same if Scotland voted remain, most labour MP's wont allow no deal to go through either. It would be meaningless and a repeat of the last 3.5 years for leave if they won but had no majority in parliament.

Switzerland has a tradition of referendums for major issues with many taking place and obv the same issues are revisited.

For Switzerland, should be Chexit.

Obviously ignorant? Laugh Ever so sorry, dave, but no, that doesn't help one little bit.  Thank you for expressing your opinions, all the same.

That would probably be a Joxit, Don - as well as a huge mistake!

Yes Lyb, I should have called it Chexit.  My mistake and well called.  We can live in hope for an actual Swexit.

Oh well, my apologies for fecking up the fred title and all the very best to the Sweese in their war of words with the Fourth Reich Happy  Next!

The EU do not reward hard work and success ie richer member states eg the richer a member is the higher the annual net contribution to The EU in some ways similar to the welfare state of The UK eg it has tended to discriminate against those in work, and just about managing; the layabouts are favoured and looked after.

I'm sure it was most of the thick tramps in england who sit in wetherspoons all day reading the owner's **** who don't work, who helped produce the incredible result. The vast majority of people who work in UK, and are not racist intolerant bigots  don't want brexit, and know it could mean a deep recession, job losses, and destroy the pension funds.

"The EU budget supports growth and job creation. Under the cohesion policy, it funds investment to help bridge economic gaps between EU countries and regions. It also helps develop rural areas in Europe."

As you can see, the EU works to "level up" amongst its member countries.
A phrase and concept that the British Prime Minister has recently been at pains to utilise in his messaging to the general public.

Good to see that he has come to understand the wisdom of the EU and is seeking to employ a similar ideology in the United Kingdom.

I wasn't having a go, incase it came across that way.  I've wondered why Switzerland is abbreviated to CH.  It's for the Latin name for Switzerland - Confoedorita Helvetica, or Helvetica Confederation in English.

Not at al, Lyb and I'm glad to be corrected.  I used to think CH was Czechoslovakia as a yoof.  I suspect I wasn't the only one!

It's more to do with preventing it being further taken away, Anx.  As for Nige, the sooner he's the Gov'ts EU Commissioner, the better!

Don't forget people, he's on LBC @ 10am this morning for two hours and Mon - Thurs 6pm - 7pm.
