Mark Stephens, the lawyer representing the Dunns, told Sky News that Anne Sacoolas "was very ill-advised" to have left the UK and said that it had caused the family "untold additional grief and hurt".

It comes after Mrs Sacoolas said she wanted to meet Harry's parents to "express her deepest sympathies and apologies".

Mrs Sacoolas, 43, was involved in the crash but returned to the US after being granted diplomatic immunity.

Mrs Sacoolas' lawyer Amy Jeffress said: "Anne is devastated by this tragic accident. No loss compares to the death of a child and Anne extends her deepest sympathy to Harry Dunn's family.

"The media reporting has been inaccurate in many respects. To begin with, Anne fully co-operated with the police and the investigation.

"She spoke with authorities at the scene of the accident and met with the Northampton police at her home the following day. She will continue to co-operate with the investigation.

"Anne would like to meet with Mr Dunn's parents so that she can express her deepest sympathies and apologies for this tragic accident.

"We have been in contact with the family's attorneys and look forward to hearing from them."

Mr Stephens told Sky News: "The most important thing for Dunn family is not whether she's prosecuted or not, they need to see her, talk to her about last moments of their son's life so they can get closure.

"They have been denied that by her fleeing jurisdiction.

"Mrs Sacoolas had her 10-year-old son strapped into the front seat of her vehicle and that would have been a traumatic experience for her son, and I'm sure the Sacoolas family are dealing with some matters that are tragic as well.

"There is a basis for having a human meeting, it has to be in private, just mum, dad and Mrs Sacoolas, and they can ask the questions and get the answers both sides think they need."

Mr Seiger told Sky News: "It's a great sign [Mrs Sacoolas' lawyer has] reached out to us and we will be engaging in embracing those discussions as openly and as positively as we always do."

He added that Harry's parents see any development in the case as a "positive step forward" and the lawyer making contact was "undoubtedly a positive step forward".

Mr Seiger also said he was "crystal clear" that Mrs Sacoolas "does not have the benefit of diplomatic immunity", and continued: "Why then did the British government advise Northamptonshire Police that she did have diplomatic immunity, and they therefore could not undertake any inquiries?

"They couldn't speak to her, arrest her, let alone charge her."

Mr Seiger added: "Something's gone wrong with the family disappearing seemingly overnight."

Be really surprised, and disappointed if she isn't returned to face prosecution.
I can understand the reasons for immunity from prosecution but not in this case between 2 countries of the stature of the UK and the USA. Especially when her involvement in the accident isn't disputed.

Doesn’t it all simply come down to whether or not you get charged for reckless driving when killing somebody by driving on the wrong side of the road, other than when trying to avoid something?

If ‘yes’ they invoke an international arrest warrant
If ‘no’ then it drags out a bit, she looks terrible, brexiteers start to question the ’special relationship’ and Trump’s intent and plenty of lawyers dip bread as per usual.
Report Whisperingdeath • October 14, 2019 10:49 AM BST
Yes she was terribly advised. She could have stayed on the base and been questioned by Police. She could have issued an apology through The Base Commander or through a solicitor. I imagine though she did as she was told so have some sympathy for her.

As you said the Lawyers are dipping their bread. I think the Dunn's are being badly advised now and manipulated. They are doing the rounds on American TV no doubt it must be terribly painful for them. What justice do they want for Harry? He is not coming back.

I have seen some drink driving no insurance people involved in fatal's have been given 5 years or less. I think this tragedy was an accident and would have been treated so by the Law as such. Now it is a political football. The Dunn's are calling for a repeal of Diplomatic Immunity or questioning its need. It is very clear many people on here should know better and haven't got a clue about it and why it is needed.

I still think the lady was questioned at the site. What do the Police know and what don't they know? What were they told. How did they know she had DI? Did they check or bottle it. Why was she not arrested at the scene of the crash? Too many unanswered questions.
Report Ramruma • October 14, 2019 11:22 AM BST
@Whisperingdeath and others are right imo. This has been turned into a media circus that will not help the Dunns, and certainly will not resurrect Harry.

They say they want justice but there can be no justice in what shows all the signs of a tragic accident. No-one set out to kill Harry.

What might help the Dunns, and actually be useful, is changing the focus away from this accident or tilting at windmills in the shape of the international concept of diplomatic immunity and onto traffic engineering so that drivers leaving the base are funnelled into the left carriageway, and perhaps even the American forces agreeing to stop the subsidised importing of left-hand-drive cars, though I am not holding my breath on that one. That would allow the Dunns to see their son's death was not in vain, as well as preventing future accidents.
Report Whisperingdeath • October 14, 2019 11:29 AM BST
Absolutely. I am surprised that they are not funneled out into the correct lane already. It is such an easy mistake to make when you first get into a car. I still remember driving out of the pound in Florida on the wrong side of the road and being annoyed they didn't drive on the correct side! It was fairly simple after that but I can see how easy it is for such a mistake to be made.

There are many definitions of justice, context playing a significant role in those varying definitions.
I'm sure that the Dunn family are fully capable of arriving at what they believe to be a relevant definition given the circumstances they find themselves in.

The parents of 19-year-old Harry Dunn have said they will only meet the American woman suspected of causing their son’s death if she promises to return to Britain.

Anne Sacoolas, 42, left the UK shortly after the collision between Dunn’s motorbike and a car outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on 27 August. She is believed to have been driving the car, and met Northamptonshire police afterwards but no investigation followed after the force was advised by the UK government that she had the protective status granted to foreign diplomats.

Dunn’s parents, Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, flew to the US on Sunday to “continue our fight for justice”. A family spokesman said on Monday that they would only meet Sacoolas if she agreed to return to the UK.

They had already stated that they did not wish to meet with Anne Sacoolas whilst in the US, stating that they would prefer to have that meeting in the UK. Trump then tried to pull a fast one.

Harry Dunn's parents reject 'bombshell' offer to meet Anne Sacoolas during Trump talks
The US president told Harry's parents that Mrs Sacoolas won't be returning to the UK despite being involved in his fatal crash.

Harry Dunn's parents have refused to meet the American woman responsible for his death after they learnt she was in the White House during their talks with Donald Trump.

Tim Dunn and Charlotte Charles said "the bombshell was dropped" that Anne Sacoolas was in the room next door to meet them as they discussed their case with the US president on Tuesday.

Their son Harry, 19, was riding his motorbike when he was killed in a collision involving Mrs Sacoolas, the wife of a US diplomat, outside an RAF base in Northamptonshire in August.

After meeting Mr Trump, Ms Charles told reporters outside the White House: "We made it very clear, as we've said all along... we would still love to meet with her but it has to be on our terms and on UK soil.

"She needs to come back and face the justice system."

During their meeting, Mr Trump told Harry's parents that Mrs Sacoolas would not be returning to the UK, but he would look at their case "from a different angle" in the wake of their talks.

She was allowed to return to the US after being granted diplomatic immunity because of her husband's work, and Harry's parents have travelled to the US to demand she faces "justice".

Ms Charles said the president was "quite respondent" and he agreed that he would be trying to get justice if it was his son who had been killed.

She told reporters: "When he [President Trump] held my hand, I gripped it a lot tighter and I was honest with him and just said, as I said a while ago, 'if it was your son you would be doing the same as us'.

"He actually gripped my hand a little bit tighter and said 'yes I would be'.

"And that's when he said he would try and look at this from a different angle."

Mr Dunn said the family declined to meet Mrs Sacoolas at the White House because "it felt a bit rushed".

He added: "I don't think it would have gone too well so that's why we refused."

Ms Charles said the president "seemed to understand that the meeting needs to be with therapists and mediators in the room, and not just her and us".

She added that the family spent about 15 minutes with Mr Trump and he was "very gracious" and "welcoming".

Mark Stephens, a lawyer who has been advising the family, told Sky News that the decision to blindside Harry's parents at the White House had been a 'gargantuan miscalculation'.

The Foreign Office has said Mrs Sacoolas no longer has diplomatic immunity because she has returned home, meaning the case can be taken forward by Northamptonshire Police.

Detectives visited the scene where Harry was killed on Tuesday and said prosecutors would receive a file on the case "very soon".

Mrs Sacoolas has accepted she was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the fatal crash and is "terribly, terribly sorry for that tragic mistake", a source close to her told Sky News.

Harry's family have called on the Foreign Office to release all documents relating to its advice to Northamptonshire Police regarding the diplomatic immunity granted to Ms Sacoolas.
Report Angoose • October 16, 2019 7:41 AM BST
Sky News had a news report yesterday that included live footage from outside the RAF Croughton base.

The entrance to the base included provision for vehicles to approach the base on the left hand side of the road.
Upon being granted access, the barrier would be lifted and you would proceed to enter the base, continuing on the left hand side of the road.

It was not possible to determine if these driving arrangements subsequently change within the base i.e. do driving arrangements within the base change from driving on the left hand side of the road to the right hand side of the road.

If the base access point shown on the Sky report was the access point used by Mrs Sacoolas to leave the base on a regular basis, including on 27 August, then she would have left the base driving on the left hand side of the road, quickly arriving at a T junction no more than 20 metres from the security checkpoint.

Trump is simply a soulless man, must be all the worshiping of money that did it.

It sounded like an attempt at opportunism, springing the meeting having photos taken to try and justify a ‘burying of differences’, and no doubt would have been referred to and shown as evidence whenever anyone justifiably asked the question about her return for questioning....because that’s the man all round.

An interview with Tim Dunn was included in the Today show on Radio 4 earlier.

He was pleasantly surprised to find that Trump appeared to listen and displayed a degree of apparently genuine empathy.
Trump was not previously aware that Harry has a twin brother, upon learning of this it did appear to make an impact.

I suspect that it remains unlikely that Mrs Sacoolas will return to the UK, time will tell.

Again the Police should know this. They do impact calculations and skid mark analysis. Were there any skid marks if it were on the brow of a hill?

I would be careful to implicate the motorcyclist speeding because shirley the Police would have know if he was and ipso facto Journalist's who at times may behave like worms but some are very smart and could have worked it out for themselves.

Nobody has lead on the speeding angle. That is one of the first things I would have investigated. Young lad dies while speeding on a motorbike. Easy to imagine and believe. The fact that nobody seems to have mentioned it leads me to believe perhaps he wasn't but still does not fully account why they did not see each other and that is the question that really needs to be answered.

The Lady apologised for driving on the wrong side, not for killing him and not for causing the accident. The US warned the UK that a suspect involved in the death of 19-year-old Harry Dunn would leave the country - but the UK's objection had no effect.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has told the House of Commons that his department was informed that Anne Sacoolas would be taken out of the UK, but their attempts to have her stay for "justice to be done" were unsuccessful.

Mr Raab said UK police were unable to legally prevent Mrs Sacoolas from leaving.

But Mr Raab says the government position is that Mrs Sacoolas' immunity ended when she left the UK.

He said: "I have already commissioned a review of the immunity arrangements for US personnel and their families at Croughton.

As this case has demonstrated, I do not believe the current arrangements are right and the review will look at how we can make sure that the arrangements at Croughton cannot be used in this way again."

He said the case is now with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Mr Raab has committed to fight for justice for the family.

Mr Raab also said he and others, including Boris Johnson, have raised the case "at every level" of the US government, including with the president, Donald Trump.

The Dunn family lawyer Rudd Seiger told Sky News that Mr Raab's statement added insult to injury. He said that Mrs Sacoolas' did not have immunity at all.

He said Mr Raab had the opportunity to take the families through the timeline he presented to parliament and did not, which is why they went to the US.

Mr Seiger said the family did not know the FCO knew Mrs Sacoolas had gone when she did, and noted the gap of up to three weeks before they were told. Mr Raab claimed in the Commons it was only one to two days' delay before the family were told she had left the country.

The family of Harry Dunn have been told that British police officers will travel to the US to interview the diplomat's wife who is suspected of killing the teenage biker.
Report Angoose • October 22, 2019 8:16 AM BST
Northamptonshire police have sent officers to the US to interview the woman who claimed diplomatic immunity following her alleged involvement in the death of Harry Dunn.

The 19-year-old died when his motorbike crashed into a car driven by the American Anne Sacoolas outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on 27 August.

“Yesterday the family were told the police had passed their file to the (Crown Prosecution Service) yet tonight were informed that the police were travelling the USA to interview Mrs Sacoolas,” family spokesman Radd Seiger said on Twitter.

“Those two statements appear to be contradictory on the face of it further compounding the family’s misery.”

Harry’s parents, Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, will on Tuesday meet the shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, who is expected to call for a parliamentary inquiry into the teenager’s death.

On Monday, Dominic Raab, the UK foreign secretary, told the Commons he had commissioned a review into immunity arrangements for US personnel and their families at RAF Croughton in light of the case.

Raab said there were “no barriers to justice being done” for Harry.

He also said the UK government believed diplomatic immunity “clearly ended” for Sacoolas, 42, when she left the country for America shortly after the crash.

He added it would be for the Crown Prosecution Service and police to decide what steps to take, telling MPs he was “not aware of any obstacle” under the UK/US extradition treaty.

Harry’s parents have cancelled a meeting set for Wednesday afternoon with Nick Adderley, the chief constable of Northamptonshire police, after it became clear his intention was not to answer “a series of key questions” the family had scripted, Seiger said.

News agency PA Media was told the force’s chief contacted the family to “provide clarity” that the meeting would be only a “private and personal visit to express condolences”.

Announcing the decision to cancel the meeting on Twitter, Seiger said: “The time for condolences has long since passed and the answers to the many questions about Anne Sacoolas’s departure and next steps are long overdue!

“Every moment that passes without those answers only compounds the family’s pain and misery. Totally unacceptable!”

Charles and Dunn travelled to the US last week in an attempt to put pressure on authorities to return Sacoolas to the UK.

The visit included talks at the White House with President Trump, during which the family was told that their son’s alleged killer was in a nearby room and prepared to meet them.

They refused the meeting, insisting such an encounter take place in Britain.

British police officers investigating the death of Harry Dunn will interview the suspect under caution in the US.

Anne Sacoolas left the UK and claimed diplomatic immunity after being involved a car crash that killed the 19-year-old outside an US spy base in Northampton in August.

She has now requested that she be interviewed under caution by Northamptonshire Police officers in her home country, and they will travel there shortly.

Chief Constable Nick Adderley said: "The suspect has cooperated fully with police and authorities and requested to be interviewed under caution in the US.

"She did not want to provide a pre-prepared statement, as is her right."

Being interviewed under caution means Mrs Sacoolas, who police have not officially named as the suspect, will have the right not to answer questions if she does not want to - but anything she does say can be used in a legal case.

During what he admitted was a "fairly unprecedented" press conference for this stage of an investigation, Mr Adderley said officers had worked "tirelessly" on the case since the accident.

He said that Mrs Sacoolas not being in the country "frustrates the investigation, but does not stop it".

He added: "The suspect cooperated with police at the scene and spoke with authorities there. Officers attended the home address of the suspect next day, and again she fully cooperated."

Harry Dunn's family to launch legal action against Foreign Office
His parents condemn police deciding to send officers to the US to interview the suspect, who claimed immunity and left the UK.

Harry Dunn's family has told Sky News they will take legal action against the Foreign Office over the way the government handled the death of their son.

The teenager's parents, Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, have instructed a top-level legal team to seek a judicial review into the way his case was dealt with.

Human rights barrister Geoffrey Robertson, who has defended boxer Mike Tyson and former Brazilian president Lula da Silva, will be on the team.

Mrs Charles and Mr Dunn have also condemned Northamptonshire Police's decision to send officers to the United States to interview Anne Sacoolas.

Good point Jack!

It is interesting to note what dangerous and reckless drivers get for taking a life. I see the Harry Dunn crash as a terrible accident and would not have thought a custodial sentence appropriate.

I heard the lawyer yesterday saying the lady had admitted her guilt in killing the poor young lad. This is patently not true. Through her lawyers I believe she has admitted to driving on the wrong side of the road. She has not admitted her driving was solely responsible for the death. We do not know what speeds were involved in this crash yet. more to come I suggest. Not trying to defend the American lady but they are attempting to try her in public and without clear evidence. It is not cricket. I feel even more sorry for the Dunn family who are being played for personal avarice and career promotion. Their son will not be coming back and neither will the American Lady. Why did the cops not interview her before now? Shirley they would have asked her what happened.

The twin brother of Harry Dunn says it was "like a punch in the face" when the American woman accused over his death claimed diplomatic immunity and returned to the US.

Speaking to Sky News after the 19-year old's death on 27 August, Niall Dunn said: "When we were told, it was like a punch in the face really - telling you tough, you know, she's not coming back, end of story, go and cry at home.

"That's really what it did feel like."

"I see my mum, she deserves justice. I see my dad, he deserves the truth and when they've got that I hope I'll return to normal," Mr Dunn said.

The teenager had seen Harry briefly on the day he died and said he was "happy".

As young boys growing up in Charlton, near Croughton, he said: "We argued and loved each other very much.

"He took care of me. He waited on me hand and foot, which I'm missing now.

"It made my life a lot easier having him around. I didn't realise how much it meant to me at the time."

Harry Dunn, the teenager who died after his motorbike was in a collision with a car driven by the wife of a US diplomat, lay by the side of the road for 43 minutes before an ambulance arrived because the urgency of his case was “wrongly categorised”.

The 19-year-old died in hospital. His motorcycle had been hit on 27 August this year near RAF Croughton, Northamptonshire, in the UK, by a car being driven by Anne Sacoolas on the wrong side of the road.

The ambulance service listed his injuries as category 2 requiring an ambulance within 40 minutes. If he had been classified as category 1 the ambulance should have arrived within seven minutes.

The first call made by a witness of the collision was put in category 2, which refers to incidents of a potentially serious condition and which estimates a waiting time of 40 minutes for patients.

The miscategorisation was revealed when Dunn’s parents met officials from the East Midlands ambulance service to discuss how their son died and the quality of the care provided by the NHS.

Emergency call handlers decided to classify the accident as not life threatening, despite Dunn “breaking every major bone” in a collision described as a “crash fireball”.

The delay in the arrival of paramedics was raised by the shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, in Foreign Office questions in the Commons on Tuesday.

On Wednesday Dunn’s family met Richard Henderson, chief executive of East Midlands Ambulance Service, and Nichola Bramhall, the service’s director of quality, to discuss the delay.

The family’s spokesman, Radd Seiger, said Dunn’s parents, Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, were full of praise for the work of the paramedics on the scene, but said the delay in getting to their son was “worrying”.

Seiger stressed that the Dunn family had expressed their deep gratitude to the NHS staff who had battled to save their son’s life, adding that they had had a very warm meeting discussing the challenges frontline staff faced and “which were likely to have played a part in the delay on the night of the collision”.

Henderson and the family agreed that a meeting could be arranged as soon as possible between the Dunns, local leaders of the NHS, and himself to start a dialogue “hopefully with a view to securing positive changes to the complex system involved in the delivery of services”.

Seiger said the family felt it was the first positive meeting they had had with a public agency since the death of the teenager.

Addressing the reasons given for the paramedics’ delay, the spokesman told PA Media: “Mr Henderson made the point that actually, because of the shortage of crews, whether it was a category 1 or category 2 wouldn’t have made a difference because the doctors were far away. At that point there were lots of tears because the family wanted to know – was he frightened? He was clearly conscious and by the time Tim got there he was still talking. From what they were able to share with us, there were no double-crewed vehicles readily available.”

The Dunn family are seeking judicial review of the Foreign Office decision to grant Sacoolas immunity, and are also seeking to make a civil damages claim against Sacoolas in the US.

Northamptonshire police have interviewed Sacoolas in the US and have left it to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether to bring charges. Donald Trump said he would decide whether Sacoolas should return to the UK when he had seen the full facts.

Nobody has mentioned the speed the two vehicles were travelling at. This is a very important piece of evidence to ascertain why the two vehicles did not avoid each other.

The Foreign Office has been accused of "threatening and intimidating" Harry Dunn's family after claiming their legal challenge is "entirely without foundation".

The family of Mr Dunn, a 19-year-old who died in a car collision outside RAF Croughton in August, are taking legal action against Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

They allege he misused or abused his power by granting the wife of a US diplomat, Anne Sacoolas, diplomatic immunity.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News, the family's lawyer Mark Stephens said the Foreign Office was "trying to intimidate the family from having their case scrutinised by the courts".

Mr Stephens accused the British government of "acting like the lickspittles of Americans".

In a letter to the family, the Foreign Office said it would "oppose" and "seek costs" for any judicial review brought.

Anne Sacoolas is believed to have been driving on the wrong side of the road when her car hit and killed Harry Dunn.

The 42-year-old claimed diplomatic immunity after the fatal crash and later left the UK.

In the letter, the Foreign Office said the family have "not identified any reasonably arguable ground of legal challenge".

The Foreign Office letter said: "We therefore invite (Harry Dunn's family) not to pursue the proposed claim. In the event that the claim is issued, it will be defended, the application for permission will be opposed, and the Secretary of State will seek his costs for doing so".

The family's lawyer said: "I think the Foreign Office know they are in weak legal position that is why they are piling all the pressure on to try to intimidate the family.

"They are trying threaten and intimidate Harry's parents so that not only do they lose their son but they lose their homes as well.

"As far as the legal argument is concerned, what is clear is that the Vienna Convention on diplomatic immunity doesn't apply.

"The British government provided a bare promise to the Americans that whilst their diplomats committed crimes in relation to their jobs they would have immunity, which doesn't apply to his wife driving down the road.

"If you kill someone or your family kills someone diplomatic immunity doesn't apply."

In a statement a Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We have deep sympathy for Harry's family.

"We have done and will continue to do everything we properly can to ensure that justice is done.

"As the foreign secretary set out in parliament, the individual involved had diplomatic immunity whilst in the country under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."

The parents of Harry Dunn have said they are "disgusted" with Dominic Raab after he defended the government's decision to seek legal costs from them.

The 19-year-old died after a collision in Northamptonshire in August that led to the suspect leaving the UK claiming diplomatic immunity.

His parents have begun legal action against the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Mr Raab said the government needed to "protect taxpayers' money".

Mr Dunn's mother Charlotte Charles told Victoria Derbyshire the foreign secretary's comments were "just completely disgusting" and she also said they had been "misled" by him.

"A month ago he said in parliament there were no obstacles to justice, but yesterday he said he was still working to clear obstacles."

"I'm just really angry with that," she said.

The FCO said last month it would "seek costs" for any judicial review brought and argues the family has not found "any reasonably arguable ground of legal challenge".

Mr Raab told Sky News: "We just cannot responsibly allow ourselves to be sued without taking the normal action in defending ourselves when the position that the representative and the family are pursuing in law is wrong."

He continued: "It pains me because I want to give them the solace of justice in this case.

"But we also need to protect the taxpayers' money and the legal position that we set out, which is the correct one."

Radd Seiger, the family's spokesman, said: "If [Mr Raab] is so concerned about taxpayers' money in the litigation then he would come and talk to us to find a resolution, rather than risking having taxpayers themselves paying a very expensive legal bill if the FCO lose."

A spokesman for FCO said: "We have deep sympathy for Harry's family. We have done and will continue to do everything we properly can to ensure that justice is done.

"As the foreign secretary set out in Parliament, the individual involved had diplomatic immunity whilst in the country under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."

He added it was "usual government practice to seek costs in legal challenges of this kind".

Harry Dunn family step up pressure as Trump visits UK
Family want PM to use president’s visit for Nato summit to demand return to UK of Anne Sacoolas, the suspect in fatal collision
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/dec/03/harry-dunn-family-step-up-pressure-as-trump-visits-uk

The family of Harry Dunn have said they will “make our feelings known” to Donald Trump as the US president visits the UK.

The 19-year-old’s parents have called on Boris Johnson to “press the family’s case for justice” upon Trump during his visit to London for a meeting of Nato leaders to mark 70 years of the alliance.

The Queen is set to host Trump among other world leaders. Harry’s family will be “congregating outside Buckingham Palace” on Tuesday evening to make “our presence known”. The teenager was killed in a collision between his motorbike and a car outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on 27 August. Anne Sacoolas, the 42-year-old motorist allegedly responsible for the crash, claimed diplomatic immunity and was allowed to return to the US.

Harry’s family have said they expect the prime minister to demand Sacoolas’s return, to call for it publicly, and then meet the family to confirm he has spoken to Trump about the issue.

Speaking on behalf of Harry’s mother, Charlotte Charles, and father, Tim Dunn, the family’s spokesman Radd Seiger said: “We have called for a meeting with Boris Johnson to press the family’s case for justice.

“The political leaders in the UK have made several public statements that they are doing all they can for Harry’s family. We have seen not a shred of evidence of that.

“Actions speak louder than words. We expect Mr Johnson to demand Anne Sacoolas’s return to the UK in his bilateral meeting with President Trump this week, to also call for that publicly, and then to meet with us to confirm that he has done so.

“Harry’s family, friends and supporters and people right around the country will not stand for it and we will be congregating outside Buckingham Palace in the early evening as the leaders arrive to make our feelings and presence known and to mingle with like minded people who, like us, believe in right versus wrong.”

It is understood that Harry’s parents have also expressed their “misery” to the Crown Prosecution Service over the time they have taken in deciding whether or not to charge the suspect in the case. Both Charles and Dunn have sent messages to a senior crown prosecutor, in which Harry’s mother spoke of “utterly shattered heart”.

Dunn also called on the CPS to “help us start our grieving process”, over a month on from the police’s initial handover of the completed file of evidence. Speaking of the CPS’s charging decision, Seiger said: “For reasons unbeknown to the family, the CPS continue to delay authorising a charge. That delay must come to an end. There is no good reason for it that we are aware of.”

Harry Dunn: Anne Sacoolas charged but there's no guarantee she will return to UK
The case will be an important test of a UK-US extradition deal once described by the now foreign secretary as "lopsided".
Dominic Waghorn https://news.sky.com/story/harry-dunn-anne-sacoolas-charged-but-theres-no-guarantee-she-will-return-to-uk-11888973

Now that Anne Sacoolas has been charged, is there any chance of her coming back to the UK to face jail?

If she does not do so voluntarily, British authorities have the option to extradite her.

Extradition requests follow clearly defined rules.

The UK would now be expected to take the next step, sending an extradition request to the US State Department via the British embassy in Washington.

The State Department then must determine whether that request conforms with the 2003 Extradition Treaty that the UK and US negotiated to formalise the process.

The State Department lawyer will be looking for two things in particular:

- Does the request include "such information as would provide a reasonable basis to believe that the person sought committed the offence for which extradition is requested".
- And is there a probable cause to justify the request.

Only then does a politician get involved.

The US secretary of state will take the final decision to approve Mrs Sacoolas's extradition or not. He will ask whether she can be guaranteed a fair trial or not and will she be subject to inhumane treatment.

It goes without saying that Mrs Sacoolas and her lawyers have the right to appeal at stages in the process.

The 2003 Extradition Treaty is controversial.

In 2012, a certain Dominic Raab, then a backbencher, condemned it as "lopsided".

"We have extradited seven UK nationals for every American extradited to Britain," complained the man who is now the foreign secretary.

Critics say it makes it easier for America to extradite people from the UK than vice versa.

They say the Blair government was hoodwinked into rushing through changes in the law in the wake of the 9/11 attacks that put the UK at a disadvantage.

Will those allegedly unfair arrangements help America block Mrs Sacoolas's extradition? We need not look too far back to see what happens when America wants a Brit to be extradited for crimes committed there.

In August this year, Donna Francis was extradited from the UK to America to stand trial for crimes allegedly committed in the US, where she is accused of killing a patient by giving her botched buttock-enhancement injections.

Will the same happen in reverse to Mrs Sacoolas?

Despite the claims of Mr Raab as a backbencher, the UK government points to a review of the extradition treaty concluding it puts Britain and America on a level footing.

What happens to Mrs Sacoolas may now become a key test of that claim.

And does Mr Raab still believe arrangements are "lopsided"? If so, will he use his power in government to try and remedy the imbalance?

Firstly I doubt a change in Government would see this woman extradited and have to face a British Court.

Secondly I very much doubt the British Government is really doing anything to push an extradition except to make it look like they are.

I suspect she will never truly rest easily, every election she will be asking the question 'Will the next incumbent take a different view?'....plus she can't leave the country as far as I can see

This is probably very true and maybe even she will face the consequences of her guilt all her life and do not forget her children will too. They will be constantly reminded of it by other children at school and maybe even when they start work.

I feel for the Dunn family. The void in their life is being filled by a desire to " fight for Justice for Harry ". There will be no justice for Harry. He is dead. His life extinguished and his family clearly devasted like any family who's child has died in a car crash and there are many in this country. The family's grief is being played out for all to see. There are no winners in all this even the American lady I am sure will be suffering.
