A US former police officer who shot dead her neighbour inside his own apartment in Dallas has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for murder.
Amber Guyger, 31, argued she killed Botham Jean, 26, after mistakenly thinking she was in her own flat and that he was an intruder. In an emotional testimony, Jean's brother Brandt said he "loved [Guyger] as a person" before giving her a hug. The jury's sentence was less than the 28 years prosecutors had sought. A four-year police veteran, Guyger did not testify in the sentencing hearing, which included emotional testimony from Jean's relatives and friends. His father, Bertrum, cried as he described the pain following the murder. Guyger's lawyers had argued she was distracted by sexually suggestive texts with another police officer and had just completed a nearly 14 hour shift when she made "a series of horrible mistakes" on the night of 6 September 2018. |

so having an itchy minge is now an excuse for going into the wrong apartment & shooting your neighbour?

Behave. It's insensitive to poke fun of. An extremely sad and unfortunate event happened. I hope 10 years imprisonment will allow the former police officer (the offender) sufficient time to reflect. However, a mighty gesture on the part of the victim's brother at the end.

It's another thin blue line job. If the guy was white she'd be serving 28.

A neighbor of Botham Jean who was a key witness in the murder trial of Amber Guyger has been shot dead in Dallas.
Joshua Brown, 28, was gunned down outside an apartment complex in the city's Medical District around 10.30 pm on Friday. He was rushed to nearby Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Witnesses say they heard several gunshots and saw a silver sedan speeding out of the apartment complex's parking lot shortly after. It's also unclear whether Brown's death was in any way connected to the Guyger's murder trial. Brown was a neighbor of both Jean and Guyger, and his shocking slaying comes just 10 days after he broke down on the witness stand as he recounted the night Jean was fatally shot by Guyger. The timing of the Brown's death - just two days after Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison - has led some to speculate that it could be connected to the case. |

Dallas Police Dept
@DallasPD We received numerous tips that led us to execute a search warrant for Mr. Brown’s apartment. We confiscated 12 lbs. of marijuana, 149 grams of THC cartridges and $4,157 in cash. @ChiefHallDPD must have been what was spare in the evidence lockers |
