If the Tories  team up with the Brexit (Farage) Party surely they would win a general election with a big majority.

100% agree.

Are the Conservatives a 1 policy party now?
Report HGS • September 27, 2019 4:46 PM BST
Therein lies the problem n88. However, I'm fairly certain the Brexit Party could take quite a few seats oop North where the tories would have little or no chance. 1 policy may do there. Though they constantly refuse any pact with TBP, I've a feeling once an election date is set, this may well change.
Report HGS • September 27, 2019 4:47 PM BST
Also it seems all are 1 policy at the mo. Block brexit.  No election.
Report n88uk • September 27, 2019 4:55 PM BST
And the Conservatives are just going to stand aside in the 80-90 seats Farage wants them to do so are they?
Report HGS • September 27, 2019 4:57 PM BST
Nope. They are not there yet.
Report n88uk • September 27, 2019 4:58 PM BST
Conservatives will get buried in the long run doing this. Assume plenty within the Conservatives are well aware of that.

I think he would make a better prime minister than boris.

Why doesn't boris get a proper haircut?  I was looking at him speaking in parliament and noticed his hair has been cut to look a mess.  It is all different lengths.  He has lovely blonde hair so getting it to look nice would be easy - but he chooses to look like this.  And deliberately musses it up as well.  I don't think I trust boris.  I think he is in it for the fame and adulation, not to serve this country.

You're very wise Annie - anyone whose lifelong ambition is to be Prime Minister is not to be trusted. As for his appearance, it reflects his lifestyle, chaotic. I would bet his house is a mess.

I read somewhere that it was the huge leave result in Sunderland early on brexit night that caused the pound to fall in the asian markets.  Why would the pound fall if the markets thought that remain would win, surely the opposite would be true?

"what type of deal could be formed between the Conservatives and the Brexit Party"

Boris wants out they want out  ?? Not much problem with deals IMO ?
Report PorcupineorPineapple • September 28, 2019 12:33 AM BST
Problem is two-fold. Firstly, Nige would essentially be campaiging in the north on a ticket that everyone knows is essentially just a Tory one. You can give it a different colour but it's the same thing.

Secondly, it's what happens after this election. The Tories inviting TBP into government and giving them a run at getting dozens of seats is like inviting a wolf into dinner. The whole point of the last few years has been to get voters to ignore Farage for them. No way are they going to legitimise him and give him credibility as it gives him a platform to build on in a couple of years which sees the Tories key vote split in half. The only way the tories and Farage unite is if Nige jacks his party in and joins Johnson.

If they are foolish enough to hold EU elections, Nigel will win most seats in England.

politicspunter 13 Apr 19 13:02
Doubtful.

Hope you have better luck this time, pp. Have you gone all in on the 0-9 seats at around 1-3?
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:17 PM BST
Lol, An EU election protest vote thread from April that you think has some relevance regarding constituency seats in any forthcoming general election?
Report GEORGE.B • September 28, 2019 11:25 PM BST
Who knows, I don't think the country has ever been in a situation where politicians have wilfully tried to overturn a democratic vote. 'Betrayal' and 'Surrender' are powerful words.

Immigration was massive in deciding the referendum, now we have a Labour Party advocating a free-for-all.

I'd imagine Nigel is going to appeal to a lot of voters this time.

Of course, if Johnson gets May's Treaty through Parliament with a tweak to the backstop, then your 1-3 could look good value!
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:28 PM BST
I am not sure why you seem to think I have bet 1-3 on anything?
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:29 PM BST
I very rarely back anything odds on.
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:31 PM BST
And I haven't a single bet on any Brexit market.
Report GEORGE.B • September 28, 2019 11:31 PM BST
I do beg your pardon, when you said they were no-hopers in northern seats, I presumed you'd lived up to your name and gone in heavily on 0-9 seats.
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:32 PM BST
They are no hopers in Northern seats.
Report GEORGE.B • September 28, 2019 11:34 PM BST

Not really, no.

Report GEORGE.B • September 28, 2019 11:42 PM BST
So when you say they're no hopers in northern seats, you really mean they're no hopers full stop iyo?

So you must see 1-3 for 0-9 seats as exceedingly good value?
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:49 PM BST
As I said earlier, if it's odds on, it's extremely unlikely I would bet on it.
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:51 PM BST
Politics betting can be extremely volatile prices wise. If you take a very short price on something and the polls turn against you, there is unlikely to be an easy way out.
Report GEORGE.B • September 28, 2019 11:52 PM BST
Aren't you contradicting yourself, if you consider them no-hopers to win any seat, never mind 10, then surely 1-3 must seem like finding money in the street?
Report politicspunter • September 28, 2019 11:56 PM BST
Let me try and put it another way. Let's suppose the next election occurs on schedule ie the year 2022. If you place a bet now at say 1/3 on anything, first of all you will have tied up a possibly large portion of your bank for three years. At the end of those three years will your bet still be a genuine 1/3 shot and more importantly, it still has to win to show a return on your initial (possibly substantial) outlay. It's not for me.
Report GEORGE.B • September 29, 2019 12:00 AM BST
When do you think the next election will be, pp?
Report politicspunter • September 29, 2019 12:01 AM BST

If the Brexit Party (currently polling at around 13%) stand in these seats (likely) and the conservatives do also (certain) then how will the Brexit Party have any chance of winning them?
