The 43-year-old was mauled at a house in Graham Road, Widnes, on Tuesday evening, Cheshire Police said.
Paramedics were unable to save the woman, who was found in a "serious condition" by police, at about 17:15 BST.
The force was unable to confirm whether the dogs belonged to the dead woman. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
Her next of kin have been informed, police added.

As long as the rich and powerful want to keep dangerous dogs we'll have to put up with them.
We've seen lately how little public opinion counts.
I can't see any other reason why the public has to be exposed to these dangerous animals.

There are breeds banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act. Which other breeds do you think should be banned?
Fwiw, I agree with you, Dr C but I'm not sure public opinion does.

you'd think after the times you have tried to demean a comment of mine & failed miserably each time, you would have learned your lesson. Apparently not

I'm a postman and there are a couple of these types of dogs in the same house on my round which rare like mad, every time I put post in the box on the wall outside. When I have a parcel to post there and they are in, they still rare like mad behind the lady/gent who answers the door. They seem to think it's amusing, I for one don't.

There was an argument between Mrs Stanley and her daughter. I assume the dogs took sides and became protective of the daughter??

A young woman nearby has a Northern Inuit dog and it looks like something out of a Stephen King novel. Huge beast bigger than and looks like a wolf. Why would anybody with young kids have a monster like that in their house? Can`t be right in the head, the woman that is, not the dog, but then again, perhaps both.

Someone mentioned they were mastiffs. Some breeds have more of a tendency than others to bond with one family member than the rest. If they do, it's usually the person who feeds it.
I read somewhere that the mastiff is extremely loyal to its owner.

A dog can turn at anytime, it just needs the right trigger to set it off. Worse when there are two, it just needs one to start and the other joins in. The potential to attack is always present in a dog.
People think they know their dogs, when very few do. In most cases the dog thinks it's in the charge of the owner.

My understanding is that a dog will want to be the "pack" leader if it's poorly trained and allowed to do so. If properly trained, it will know its place in the family hierarchy.
