Survivor definition

The word survivor is being misused imho.
The latest case is a lady complaining about Sir Geoffrey Boycott's Knighthood on BBC.
His conviction of domestic abuse in a French court was the topic.
To me a survivor is someone who lives let's say after a plane crash that has killed almost everyone else.
