Corbyn has constantly asked for an election for years and yet when he is offered one he turns it down, twice.  He wants a pre-nuptial taking No Deal off the table.  This suggests he does not think he would win an election, for if he did win then he could do whatever with Brexit.  If he's convinced that the public won't vote for him then surely he realises that the public do not agree with his views on Brexit.  By seeking to delay Brexit and, in the event of Brexit, letting the EU have a deal, he is going against what the people want.

OP misses the point that Boris would then have been in control of both the election date and Brexit date. Even a thicko like Corbyn could see that elephant trap.
Report northanlite September 10, 2019 10:42 AM BST
can we start to interject "some of" into phrases like "what (some of) the people want" and " the will of (some of) the people"
or perhaps add in figure like "the will of 37% of the electorate" or "the will of 26% of the total uk population"
just for the sake of accuracy.

"A majority of" would be a little more accurate than "some of"

Whatever percentages quoted.... Leave was more than remain

It was not only Labour who opposed Boris, was it...it was his own party as well?

Don't blame it all on Corbyn

The truth is none of the MP's think we should leave the EU, bar Farage, and he is not their any more

ps
and the majority of the electorate who think we should leave
Report Ramruma September 10, 2019 2:13 PM BST
It is not so much that MPs want to Remain, but that the MPs who want to leave cannot agree amongst themselves how to leave.

That is what gave us the paradox of Remainers voting to leave, and Leavers voting to remain every time Theresa May's WA bills came before parliament. It would have been Brexit but the wrong sort of Brexit, apparently.

This is all wrong lybertyne although I do say his best chance of becoming Prime Minister and postponing and or stopping Brexit is now, before a General Election.

It is very sad that many people cannot have an honest debate on the subject.

Let me put this proposition forward.

I say there is a possibility that Jeremy Corbyn can become the next Prime Minister and ask the EU for an extension to our withdrawal from the EU. I am also saying that as head of the Executive he could even revoke Article 50 with the consent of Parliament.

People will say he cannot do that. They will say he cannot become Prime Minister. He cannot ask the EU for an extension but he can.

In actual fact I think the possibility of him becoming Prime minister is getting stronger. I am not saying it will happen.

There also seems to be a lack of honesty from the Political parties. At the impending General Election I am also convinced that battle lines will be between Leave and remain. I thought that Nigel Fromage would want to decimate the Conservatives but he is a smart operator and knows the forces ranged against Brexit will likely form an Electoral Pact. I am pretty sure he will do the same with the Conservatives. It will be fascinating to see.

The big unknown apart from voter intentions is what support a Remain Government could hope for from Labour MP's. The Leave group within Labour have remained remarkably silent. The are plenty of Labour MP's in Leave Constituencies.

Nothing can be taken for granted with the Government, Parliament and even the voting public. Interesting times!

Today's news, god help us if Labour get in....I though as soon as we voted brexit, mass unemployment and hell on earth....lies!

It is not lies doridu it is an opinion that might prove right or wrong after the event. What was lies was £350 million for the NHS after Brexit.
Report doridoru September 10, 2019 3:54 PM BST
Um no, George Osbourne and all the remain gimps said mass unemployment, sky rocket prices etc within 3 months of the vote, 3 years later business is booming, unemployment record low etc because business are staying, you lot would rather destroy the country....

The Facebook, Twitter remain muppets and their pic of crisps for £5 a pack etc scaremongering 3 years ago...there will be 100's of millions for the NHS if we were allowed no deal the real Brexit, but the traitors Corbyn etc need their EU bungs.

There is a possibility of a 3 way coalition between Jezza, Jo and Wee Nicola. Gawd help us!

Boris has to find 50 seats from somewhere to get a majority. The only coalition he woudl consider is with Nigel. But he won't win many seats will he?!

The dilemma for Jezza is he could fall down the chasm between Remainers and Brexiteers. He could easily lose votes from both. The Remainers I know have a few bob and would be fearful of the Reds under their beds taking it off them.

So do they vote for Jo instead? Probably. Meanwhile Brexit Labour supporters may well vote for Nigel, unwilling to vote for Boris' Tory boys.

I'd like a price on a 2nd GE next May!!!!!

There are so many possibilities it really is hard to call. I think you might be right that the first General Election may not provide any clarity. We would be in huge trouble then!

I do think there will be electoral pacts and maybe that is why Jo Swansong is so against making JC the PM thereby giving him some degree of credibility.

Anyone know when JC can be challenged again for the Labour Leadership? That might be a game changer.
Report Injera September 10, 2019 5:11 PM BST
I think he can be challenged now. But I think we have enough turmoil for now.

JC's achievements of winning the leadership contest and then defeating those who tried to remove him are incredible.

Could he win a majority? I doubt it. Could he form a coalition? Most certainly.

A united Tory party could send Labour into oblivion. But they're so intent on suicide it's a case of expect the unexpected.

There is a huge campaign to smear and discredit him anxious. Just because you don't like or agree with it that doesn't mean it has no effect. If what you are saying is correct we are one step near that happening although it is still a very long shot but I do have to say if the forces of Remain are serious they may have to swallow it!
