Bread and Butter pudding? Surely this is only what poor people eat? Ask her to leave immediately.

Fear not, RLKP.  Like broccoli and stilton soup, it is a 100 times better than it sounds!

M & S sell it so it's not for poor people. Home made is best using brioche

Speaking of bread and butter pudding, it's decades since I've had bread pudding.

I wouldn't eat bread and butter pudding even if I was starving hungry but then I don't eat any desserts as I don't have a sweet tooth, more a cheese and biscuit man.

Even a nice custard couldn't make that taste nice.

One of the earliest published recipes for a bread and butter pudding so named is found in Eliza Smith's The Compleat Housewife of 1728.

A posh dish in its day ! Buttered bread, raisins, egg, milk or cream,  grated nutmeg

Yes, it's much nicer than it sounds. I prefer it made with lard instead of butter and without any added sugar although that's not to most people's taste.
When cold, it can be cut into blocks and eaten as a snack.

Better shut your eyes and stick to foie gras Johnny before I start extolling the virtues of soused pig's head.
