My dirty little secret was I really enjoyed Richmond Pork Sausages until I found out what they consisted of. Since I've tried to go more upmarket with Hecks and a couple of other brands my question is why are the skins on these sausages so tough?

I don’t know, Bigmo.

I don’t buy sausages but I’ve just had a look to see what is in Richmond sausages Crazy Why are they so expensive?

You can buy Sainsbury’s outdoor bred 97% pork sausages for a lot less.

My parents once kept pigs  as a part time hobby as my uncle owned the land around them and they had sausages made a the local independent butcher, they were sublime, all meat and seasoning with no fat. Sadly they gave it up.

I would recommend you go to an independent butcher in your town and try some different varieties. You may pay 25-50% more but you will be getting 25-50% more meat.

Outdoor-bred, the term used by Waitrose means that the sows are kept outdoors and the piglets spend their first four weeks outdoors until they are weaned and taken indoors to be fattened (for the kill). Don't kid yourself's that the 'sausages' are enjoying the great outdoors before finding themselves in a butty......................

they fix the numbers,a survey of 10,000 people who died of cancer showed that 4,000 smoked but 9000 eat sausages.
Report brassneck August 22, 2019 10:38 PM BST
and the same survey showed that a packet of sausages per day are more dangerous to your health than a packet of cigarettes per day.Laugh

blackbarn,i did not mean to offend you, some guy had a programme on RTE TV one night about 3 years back about the dangers of eating sausages.the show lasted a hour.after it was over it had effected the food chain in Ireland as housewives did not buy sausages for the following month.there was chaos over the show being shown on TV and switchboards lit up everywhere,GOVERNMENT MINISTERS spent time discussing it in the Dail,i am not joking, but the guy who has the show stood over his facts and figures and proved himself correct about the dangers of eating sausages, and its not difficult to check it up on the internet if you doubt me.

I'll give you some tips on the bantering thing. Try to get away from the wheel angle. Hamsters are known to have particularly small peenises. Maybe try the small peenis angle of attack.

Yes, I have pointed out on here before the difference between outdoor bred and outdoor reared pigs. I was only using the article I posted to question why Richmond rubbish sausages were more expensive than the Sainsbury's one with 97% meat.

I did notice on my journey to Norwich recently that there were fields and fields of outdoor pigs. Nice to see, but like you say the piglets were probably soon sent indoors after 4 weeks, sadly Sad

Pigs are lovely creatures. I was reading about a piglet that fell off a lorry and was rescued and is now a family pet. Lucky little piglet. I’ll try and find the article. I have to get up for work now. I can hardly type this as I fell off a ladder yesterday and have injured my shoulder and it hurts like hell this morning Sad

As oreviously stated, buy your sausages from a local butcher or shop which sources their meat from small producers.

I have no idea why some sausage skins are so thick.  It makes them horrible to eat imo.

Hi Evgeny. I missed most of it Cry

I set my recorder box each day but each day it failed to record. Every night I sat down to watch it but there was nothing there Sad

I was home Thursday and could have watched it.  I don’t know what happened. It’s set to record all of ITV Racing, it recorded ok today when I was sitting down watching it, typical.

I wonder if anyone else had this problem. I’ve never had this happen before.

I missed seeing Enable. My favourite Flat horse Love Sad

Aren't they often intestines of the pig? So blame biology, animals don't want their guts literally rupturing without good reason!

Hence why I stopped buying Richmond Sausages. I'm ashamed to say though I enjoyed them though. When you look at the ingredients though it puts you off.

Richmond's will be dearer so they can pay for their advertising budget and to give the illusion of being better.

My sister in law cooked me two of the Sainsbury’s sausages for my breakfast this morning. They were very lovely. I’m not a fan of sausages. She thought they were from pigs that had spent their entire life outdoors. I didn’t tell her as she might have thought I was complaining.

The Beatles icon Paul McCartney has released a new video for PETA on Twitter where he discussed the horrific diseases pigs get when being prepared for slaughter. Alternative Nation transcribed McCartney’s remarks. McCartney showed off his muscles in a shirtless photo he posted yesterday.

“Pigs are more intelligent than dogs, even outperforming some primates on a variety of tasks, such as operating interactive video games. They have cognitive abilities beyond those of three year old human children, yet on factory farms they are imprisoned in crowded, filthy conditions. Many will go insane from the stress, abuse, and the complete lack of mental stimulation. Breeding sows are treated like machines, forced to churn out litter after litter.

They give birth in barren stalls without enough room even to nuzzle their piglets. Conditions are so dismal in today’s pig breeding facilities that sickness and death of piglets is common, and considered acceptable by the industry. Pigs are bred to grow unnaturally fast, which causes injury, sickness, and constant pain.”
