Outdoor-bred, the term used by Waitrose means that the sows are kept outdoors and the piglets spend their first four weeks outdoors until they are weaned and taken indoors to be fattened (for the kill). Yes, I have pointed out on here before the difference between outdoor bred and outdoor reared pigs. I was only using the article I posted to question why Richmond rubbish sausages were more expensive than the Sainsbury's one with 97% meat.
I did notice on my journey to Norwich recently that there were fields and fields of outdoor pigs. Nice to see, but like you say the piglets were probably soon sent indoors after 4 weeks, sadly
Pigs are lovely creatures. I was reading about a piglet that fell off a lorry and was rescued and is now a family pet. Lucky little piglet. I’ll try and find the article. I have to get up for work now. I can hardly type this as I fell off a ladder yesterday and have injured my shoulder and it hurts like hell this morning
