Humble was an appallingly stupid man whose actions may well have cost the lives of a number of women. Plus of course those murder cases that were never prosecuted, which in retrospect appear to have all then hallmarks of a well-known serial killer.

The book below was an interesting 'fictional interpretation based of Humble's antics.

This one is an excellent examination of the "Secret" murders.

I also remember the umpteen Celebrity Geordies being questioned by Plod.   Waddell and Miles being two off the top of my head.

Poor John Miles. All he did was release a song called "Nice Man Jack" about the original Ripper and he had his collar felt so it was said.  And all poor Sid W ever did was spout classical witticisms in between 'double top".

Think people being a bit harsh here.

It was the police's responsibility to find Sutcliffe - end of.

Their complete and utter stupidity in focusing almost exclusively on the tape warrants them in some way culpable in the murders that happened afterwards.

You wonder hoe anyone gets convicted of anything and I am always amazed when anyone pleads guilty to anything.

Every single case I have ever heard about or know personally involves the most basic/stupud errors from police officers.

You certainly like people to suffer akabula..

Does not bring anyone back

I remember the police struggled on this case and they took anything they could get

Wearside Jack could have been responsible for women's deaths, because of the time the police wasted on him.

oldfield nearly blew the case even after sutcliffe was caught as fair trial looked impossible.

a friend lived in manchester, had not much of a geordie accent, certainly not a
castletown accent, but was pulled in twice , asked him if he was interested in d.i.y.
both times.

walking home from nightclubs, talking in street...Sad

i dont think humble could have thought his hoaxes could have fooled police, but fool them he did

one thing i suspect is that police got loads of hoax letters, but chose to accept
these ones because chief officer made a mistake about a piece of info that he
thought was not public knowledge but was indeed published.

lots of films around at the time like clint eastwood where mass murderers sparred with
police.

Slight exaggeration by you UBLE. In this case yes but I 'm probably right in thinking you are also referring to those that get executed in America.
In that instance all I said was that unlike you and a few others I gave no thought to the murderers only the victims.
But you carry on shedding tears for the criminals.
This crackpot was responsible for the Ripper case investigation being taken in the wrong direction and 3 women died that might otherwise have not.

Yes you are right there Akabula...I was including the executions in America

Well I have sympathy for the victims as well, and Wearside Jack's hoax could have cost three more women their lives as you say

and of course people must be punished.

We look at this in different ways I see.

I don't shed tears for criminals akabula

It is just that when people obsess on revenge and making people suffer, I have never thought it is a good place to go myself.

As long as punishment is adequate for a crime that should be sufficient.

To me execution means execution, not execution and torture.

Still we are different people...so ok akabula

We have a right to our own views....we discuss them on here
