Democracy is a system of government where the citizens exercise power by voting.
In a representative democracy the citizens elect representatives from among themselves.

A parliamentary system or parliamentary democracy is a system of democratic governance of a state where the executive derives its democratic legitimacy from its ability to command the confidence of the legislature, typically a parliament, and is also held accountable to that parliament.

`The will of the people' is meaningless garbage.

This is a betting site. How would you all bet if there was a 2nd referendum. I would make it 1/12 Remain, 12/1 leave.
So leave the `will of the people' to people who would vote someone from Towie if they were asked to vote for a Prime Minister.

At last it looks like the massive majority of sensible remain politicians from all party's are finally getting their act together and prepared to collude
for the benefit of the country.

I just hope they have a cunning plan to bring down the ridiculous Johnson without allowing Corbyn the enter number 10 whilst at the same time getting a 2nd referendum on the books.

Then sometime next year business, individuals and hopefully a non marxist government can get on with trying to grow the economy for the benefit of everyone
in the UK (the UK will not exist if we leave the EU - you so realise that BREXIT voters?????). Instead of committing self harm that will be felt for decades just because alot of people wanted to show they were a bit angry about `something' - well foreigners will do in 2016.

Not sure about EU collaborators - there was a deal that would have taken us out of the EU but bizarrely the most pro Brexit MP's voted against it lol.

All ideological zealots are brought down through their own intransigence.

If we had left on the terms of that deal the economy would probably have only shrunk a bit more than other EU states over the next couple of decades.
But by insisting on a hard or no deal brexit, there would be severe short term disruption to all individuals and a severe decline in the ecomony over the next 2 decades
that would almost certainly result in a government being elected on a mandate to return us to the EU.

The stupidity of the brexiter MP's is more dumbfounding than the millions of poor people, particularly in south wales and the north of England who voted leave despite being big net beneficiaries from EU membership and who will suffer most if and  when we leave.

But life is full of irony.
Report Captain carnage August 16, 2019 11:06 PM BST
Come on then boys.

Tell me
1) How the UK stays together after we leave the EU? Scotland will undoubtedly have independence within a couple of years.
2) How our economy does not deteriorate affecting the poorest the most. Every single independent study concludes this. In fact just
read 5 pages of any economics book and you will understand why.
3) How the NHS/Care system does not suffer/deteriorate badly. Are we going to beg and use what little money is left in the economy to bribe
tens of thousands from India/Bangledesh and other Commonwealth countries to come and work here?

Report Just Checking August 17, 2019 2:07 AM BST
Err .. ... It's not difficult as to see why democracy is going wrong here:
Step 1: Parliament, like Cameron, thought they would win the initial referendum. They thought it would show him/them as
noble democrats and extinguish the "fascist" UKIP if they did so. Yay, "fox is shot!". Virtually every MP voted
for the referendum, as they thought it wouldn't lose.
Step 2: The people told the political "Elite" to piddle off and voted the other way. Woops - if you are a politician who
thinks they are there to rule not to serve.
The proletariat defying us was not part of the plan.
Step 3: Constant backpedalling. They now don't WANT to appear undemocratic, but won't allow the people (who they represent)
get their vote implemented. So we've the ridiculous situation of MPs being voted in on a "will implement" ticket who
have no intention of doing so and never will. Dishonest politicians? Never!
(Step 3B: Corbyn doesn't give a sh1t either way as their voter base is divided and Corbyn just wants power out of it).
Step 4: The people are getting angry as they are not stupid. They can see everything that is going on.
3 years of the majority being told they are stupid racists by a London based left wing media does not help btw.
There is something strange about a media for 3 years patronising 52% of the country they are fascist morons
and anyone on the other side they should be scared of the fascist morons .. getting perturbed this country might be
angry and divided. Who could foresee THAT coming?
Step 5: If they ditch the result... The politicians who have spent 3 years saying the people's vote is sovereign then
overturn it (as if it wasn't the plan all along) think this will be a victory for democracy and forgotten?

The only small glimmer of light is SOME politicians can see the above.

E.g. Caroline Flint, Labour, who voted Remain, every time I've heard her talk about Brexit has sounded one of the few sane
and honourable ones and I believe would agree with (most!) of what I've said above.

She's one of the few rational adults left. If Boris goes, make her PM ..
Report n88uk August 17, 2019 2:10 AM BST
Who is getting angry really. People on social media?
Report n88uk August 17, 2019 2:13 AM BST
The overwhelming majority of MPs wanted to implement the result of the referendum. They were ignored in the process for political reasons while Theresa May pandered to the far right in her party who let her down in the end anyway.

Like I said earlier if Labour had been in charge we'd have been out by now, the majorities always lied near what Labour set out (what Labour actually set out was fantasy, but we can see where it was heading). The Conservatives don't seem to realise not only do they not have a majority that their own party is split on Brexit anyway.
Report n88uk August 17, 2019 2:18 AM BST
Also anyone who thinks the media is left wing is deluding themselves. The media has a clear right wing bias, and the media that is right wing tends to be further to the right than the left wing media.

You only need to see how Corbyn is continually savaged by the overwhelming majority of media, while the likes of Farage and far rights in the Tories enjoy far more support from the media. The reasoning being obvious that capitalism will fund media, and thus have the bigger influence on it.
Report Just Checking August 17, 2019 2:28 AM BST
And with that ^^^ I realise there is no point arguing with you.
Anyone who watches e.g. BBC/C4 and thinks they are either right wing or pro brexit is has political compass pointing at Lenin.
Report n88uk August 17, 2019 2:30 AM BST
BBC that spins everything back to Corbyn having a bad day? That has consistently given Farage a massive platform normally totally unchallenged on whatever he's saying going back many years despite the fact he's never been able to win a seat as an MP?
