it's better than that; police say "not terrorist related" but "he may have been radicalised online"

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told reporters the alleged offender Mert Ney "is by definition a lone actor".

"Information was found on him that would suggest he had some ideologies related to terrorism... but he has no apparent links to other terrorist organisations," Mr Fuller said.

The man who allegedly went on a stabbing rampage in Sydney’s CBD is believed to be escaped mental health patient Mert Ney.

Police have confirmed the 21-year-old Marayong man has a history of mental health issues.

He reportedly absconded from a mental health facility a few days ago before murdering one woman and stabbing another.
