Broken into but nothing taken. Not sure what caused the change of mind on the ne'er-do-well's part: passing police car; neighbour's dog barking; who knows?
My advice to couples who are burgled is to move. It is important to feel safe at home, especially but not only with young children, and once that feeling is shattered, it is best to move rather than let increased tension lead inexorably to break-up of the family. |

Facts.....
It was a rented detached house, at the end of a cul de sac, and with a field to the rear, extending to a main road... We were there when building our new place. Unfortunately it was a '70s build and hadn't been upgraded (this happened in '78)... The widows were old style wood, and single glazed with no locks, and the keys were hanging on a rack in the kitchen, which was visible from outside. Wrongly, we had just continued with that, and they had simply drilled the frame, so they could pop up the catches. Obviously, whilst some were going through stuff, the doors were being opened for escape. Ironically, the neighbours in the houses on each side were away, but the police said they were working to a shopping list, as someone had already done a "recce" where they come and ask if you need any tree work etc, and if nobody at home they have a good look around.... |

Yes and pretty similar to you lady. Was done during a Saturday evening when we were upstairs asleep as were the kids. I'm a light sleeper also and very annoyed I heard nowt. Difference here was they just took mobile phones and gadgets, TV and other stuff left. Think I would've heard any heavy lifting. Think it was just someone chancing their arm. Somehow we left the back door unlocked, but they would've had to come through the back gate and garden first. Didn't notice straight away. Only when I went to use he laptop or summat we realised. Was fuming at the time but as time gone by actually think how lucky we (or they) may have been that they did't venture upstairs. Nearly always check that all doors are locked before going up the hill. Sods law I didn't that evening.

And we have subsequently moved. Very un-nerving.

my parents neighbours got the full home invasion back in the 1990's.
put through the back door with an axe, tied them up, beat them put a van on the driveway and stole everything they could & shat on their bed for good measure. they were a retired couple and never fully recovered. he died in his mid 60's about a year later and absolutely no doubt it was a major factor in his health decline. when the police were round asking who saw what they told my folks that every house on their street had a value attached by criminals. they cased houses & sold the info. they lived in glasgow but cops said gangs would travel from down south or north with bought info on places to burgle and gangs from glasgow would do likewise in other cities. mind bending wickedness |

Very sad northan. Scum.

i can only guess that they travel because local cops might spot them if they are out & about
in their own city. they never caught anyone for that crime. |

Had house burgled 30+ years ago ,got in through a small window.Must of been disturbed as TV was on unit in the kitchen ready to go through large window.Police came round, waste of time even back then.Felt as though they thought we had done it for the insurance.
Had my business broken into about 25 years ago ,cash ,cigs.Smashed up machines.Police came round ,"we know the two who did this , someone reported them on the roofs above the night before ". Took what they called excellent footprints off the flat roof.Got a call a month or two later ,not enough evidence for the CPS to prosecute. So before getting to the scene they knew the 2 scumbags that had done it and still no conviction, the police did not care back then so I can only imagine how bad they are now. |

The police eventually showed up, and I have to bow to there incredible knowledge, and professionalism!
One of them had it sussed, the second he went round the back! "Another dustbin job", he said to the other one! Give that man a promotion because, based on their usual incompetence; that has to be outstanding! Mind you, and in fairness, it could have been a garden chair, or wheel barrow job!!! |
