I was reading an interesting story recently about the "japanese" equivalent of schindler.
He's far less known about but also saved shedloads of lives.. ok this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiune_Sugihara He was a diplomat in Lithuania for Japan that could see the way the wind was blowing and decided for humanties sake to, despite the fact it wasn't allowed, stamp 1000s of exit visas for Jews to Japan via Russia. Given how horrible the Japs could be ... (their war crime list in ww2 is off the scale..) it's good to be reminded they had very good guys as well. |
