The cost of a pint has risen across the nation in recent years - but Coventry is still among the cheapest cities to buy a beverage.

According to the Office of National Statistics, the average cost of a pint of beer has risen 30 percent, from £2.81 to £3.57.

And Coventry has moved with the times, with the average price of a pint in the city £3.52

It will come as no surprise that the most expensive city in the UK for beer is the capital, with the average price in London an eye opening £5.18.

Other pricey places include Brighton, Cambridge and Bristol, with average prices of £4.53, £4,40, and £4.36 respectively.

On the other end of the scale, the cheapest average price is in Preston, with £3.06.

Narrowly missing out on top spot was Perth, just one pence more expensive than Preston.

Elsewhere in the Midlands, Birmingham is among the more expensive places to grab a drink, with the average price a touch under £4, at £3.94.

9. Manchester - £4.11

10. Belfast - £4.05

The cheapest cities to buy a pint in the UK

3. Sunderland - £3.25

4. Liverpool - £3.27

5. Kingston Upon Hull - £3.27

7. Southend-On-Sea - £3.29

8. Dundee - £3.29

9. Swansea - £3.31

10. Sheffield - £3.37

13. Coventry - £3.52

Globally, if you are looking to buy a beer on a budget, you may want to consider Maputo in Mozambique. It is a fair distance away, but the average price of a beer here is £0.39.

Other cheap cities include Caracas in Venezuela, Juba in South Sudan, and Pyongyang in North Korea - where a pint will set you back £0.70 on average.

Doha in Qatar is the most expensive place to buy a beer, with an average price which makes London look cheap - £10.30.

I await the heated debate.Laugh

Somewhat ironic that - the worst place in Britain to buy a Pint, is also the most expensive.

Or - should I say - the place to buy the worst pint in Britain.

I went to Palace away at Newcastle in April earlier this year, we all went to a pub right by St. James's Park whose name escapes me. 4 pints of lager, 3 pints of cider, a few packets of crisps and nuts and I got change from a score Shocked A pint of Aspalls is a fiver in my local, typically Carling or say Fosters is around £4.40 on average.

Price of pints will always increase because of the minimum wage staff costs of the barmaid. Although you could do a Paul Hollywood and get rid of the barmaid and pull your own.

Estrella was a Euro a pint in the Irish Rose in Tenerife for years. If memory serves me right they changed to Alhambra for the session beer. Haven't been for a couple of years but hope to this March.
