Britain's head of counter-terror policing has said homegrown terrorism is fuelled by a lack of social mobility and inclusion.
And …erm… Islam?
Neil Basu, the Metropolitan police assistant commissioner, said better education and opportunities for young people would do more to fight terrorism than 'the policing and state security apparatus put together'.
He also said British Muslims should not be forced to 'assimilate', adding: 'Assimilation implies that I have to hide myself in order to get on. We should not be a society that accepts that.'
Oh well, there goes the social contract right down the ******* toilet.
Mr Basu told The Guardian: 'Nothing I am saying remotely excuses these heinous acts of criminal violence.
I feel a but coming…
'But the deeper causes need examining. My teams are world class at stopping attacks and locking terrorists up. But we need to stop the flow of recruits into terrorism.
The deeper cause being… wait for it… Islam?
'Don't forget that 70%-80% of the people we arrest, disrupt or commit an attack here, are born and raised here. Born or at least raised here. That has got to tell us something about our society.
Islam?
'I want good academics, good sociologists, good criminologists ... to be telling us exactly why that is.'

The potential next head of the Metropolitan Police said there were common themes in the lives of people considered more 'malleable' to terrorist recruitment, from 'high anxiety' to a 'lack of confidence'.
The common theme? … you guessed it… Islam!?
He urged that the government must grapple with 'education, access to health, not disproportionate outcomes in criminal justice, feeling like you've got an opportunity to get on in life'.
Mr Basu admitted that the Government's Prevent counter-terrorism strategy had been 'badly handled' and argued it needed to be more community-led to be successful.
Or distil all that flim flam down into one easy sentence that reads…
Nothing bad that anyone ever does in the name of Islam has anything to do with Islam.
Because of course, the funny brown people can’t possibly know their own minds can they? Can’t possibly have any kind of agency or be held culpable.

There is a deeper question why have we been dragged into a war at all with Islam.
It was not there before 1990. But we seem to have it now, I have my own ideas as to who is responsible for this. But people have to see it for themselves. But at this moment in times they are a Terrorist threat, we have to protect ourselves we have no choice. |

We share this country with a lot of Muslims. We need to find a way of getting along. I would never have let so many in myself, but since we have, so we have to face up to the problems and living together and solve it. Blaming Islam is pointless. |

Islam, as well as the muslims, have hardly ever tried to hide that. Its not like the koran is a secret. Or they try to hide the relevant parts of it to look innocent. If you are expecting the authorities to declare publicly that Islam is the cause, you are living in a fool's paradise. Everything else aside, the business with muslim countries and their population in England are the two main reasons I can see why the chief wouldn't say what you want him to say. Be real. |

This all started with our invasion of Muslim countries starting in 1990, in my opinion.
It made Muslims very angry. This has resulted in Muslim Terrorists. We need to stop young Muslims doing this. So we do need to assimilate them to a degree , make them feel part of uur society We do not ask them to change their religion but they need to get on with their lives, don't throw it away on Terrorist acts. just my OWN opinion, I am NOT a Muslim, I am a peaceful Athiest. Agree or disagree as people choose. |

I wouldn't expect the authorities to declare Islam is a problem but I would expect them to quietly profile any problem and pay extra attention to those who fit the profile,whether they are right,left or religious extremists.Failure to do that is unprofessional.

Sorry to tell you U/R but the hate existed long before that,came across it in Saudi in the 80's ,spoken about by an Egyptian friend of mine in detail,but I would agree that it increased by an order of magnitude when you said it.Bush and Blair handled things very badly but previous US admninistrations were suffering in Lebanon and elsewhere.

Just a few short years ago Merkel was pointing out how multi-culturism and a lack of integration had "utterly failed" in Germany in her famous MultiKulti has failed speech... "And of course, the approach [to build] a multicultural [society] and to live side-by-side and to enjoy each other... has failed, utterly failed."
And it makes sense? I would have thought a society where people integrated (rather than one that forms sub societies where they live as if in enclaves of a foreign country) would be more cohesive, safer, more understanding, have less cross group violence etc. I'd have thought to have the this would by definition be assimilation? |

He is advocating separate societies, which we have already and there is little chance of that changing. Once they are near equal size these two worlds will collide with force.

That is true I'd find it hard to believe that in this day and age any are less favoured than the average white person (this isn't a woe is the whitey cry). Have 3 people in my family with decent public sector jobs in different areas who have had to forego actual merit when choosing candidates for a job vacancy or interview in favour of box fillers,despite unsuitabilities and lack of qualifications for the posts as absolute rule dictates from above. |

Because no one ever changes Look at all the catholic and Protestant wars in Europewe have had in the past, it killed a lot of people but Islam is a declaration of war. Well there were the Ottamen Turks who created an Empire that nearly reached Vienna but not quite. It is has largely been the religion of the Middle East since it started circa 700 AD. But there has been no Islamic attack on us, not a serious one. From 1900 onwards we attacked them, they did not attack us. I hold to that. If we had not done that there would not be the problems we are having. I do remember life before 1990, most people did waste their life complaining about Islam, Thatcher maybe but not Islam. Am I the eonly on here who can remeber that far back, that explains it |

Muslim Albania, this very minute, is attempting to enlarge its borders at Christian Macedonia's expense. 10. Muslim Northern Nigeria has been (and is currently) an aggressor against the Christian south. 11. Muslims expelled approximately 800,000 Jews from their homelands between 1947 and 1955. 12. During Jordan's occupation of the West Bank, the kingdom undertook an unsuccessful attempt to make Jerusalem a Muslim city by forcing out approximately 10,000 Christian inhabitants. |
