But wait?
LDEM: 43.5% (+14.3)
CON: 39.0% (-9.6)
BREX: 10.5% (+10.5)
LAB: 5.3% (-12.5)
MRLP: 1.0% (+1.0)
UKIP: 0.8% (-0.6)
.. the Con vote appears to have gone to the Brexit Party. In fact adding them together, it was previously 50.0% adding Tories + UKIP together, NOW it's 50.3% with "Brexit no matter what" Tories+Brexit+UKIP.

Clear signal of a swing against Brexit this most certainly is not. Lib Dems have apparently have got the unelectable Marxist Labour Party votes + there was a remoaner electoral pact with Plaid + the Greens also boosting the LDS.

Can someone bring up the thread from the euros where the same math was done in reverse.
Report mouse muldoon • August 2, 2019 6:42 PM BST
If there's a message there for anyone, it has to be for Corbyn.

Seems just as relevant as earlier.........

The Lib Dem candidate polled the most votes on the day and won the seat, the bullsh1teer lost - that's how our electoral system works don't you know?
Report HGS • August 2, 2019 7:26 PM BST
Ah good. Brexit is safe to go ahead then. Cheers.
Report Lee Ho Fooks • August 2, 2019 7:32 PM BST
Been waiting 3 years for it to happen, with that majority there was never any excuse for them not to go ahead.

"with that majority there was never any excuse for them not to go ahead."
Where have you been the last 3 years? Have you been under a rock while the self serving point scoring democracy hating MPs at Westminster have made total dicks of themselves and the country?

Can anyone enlighten me to what the exact point of this thread is please? ie what point is the op trying to make?

Are you saying that the remain/leave vote here has altered since the referendum? Is that the point you are trying to make?

The only thing that the vote tells you is that Tory voters are a disgrace.  A MP gets booted out for fiddling expenses and they still vote for him.

"brexit" wins all the EU elections, "remain" wins all the parliament seats

Try to unravel that little conundrum CrazyCrazy

The EU elections are basically an opportunity for a low turnout protest vote but are fairly irrelevant as far as future Westminster seats are concerned.

it was 52% at referendum, on a higher turnout

where have all the brexiteers gone?
Report politicspunter • August 2, 2019 9:14 PM BST
To the LibDems?
Report tobermory • August 2, 2019 9:21 PM BST
Welsh Labour voters are majority Leave.

If you take that into account then the by election has basically the same result as the referendum.
Report politicspunter • August 2, 2019 9:23 PM BST
If the tories had put up a candidate that wasn't a convicted criminal, they might have won it.
Report bigmo • August 2, 2019 9:36 PM BST
But, before remainers crack open the Veuve Clicquot, they ought to bear this in mind: if you take the Lib Dem vote (the only party expressly pledged to remain or hold a new referendum) their share of the vote was 43.5%. Even if you add Labour's (a party with a, let's say, nebulous position) the sum is 48.7%.

By contrast, if you combine the parties pledged to leave without a deal if necessary (the Tories, the Brexit Party and UKIP) the total is 50.3%. 48.7% vs 50.3%. In other words, not a million miles away from how Brecon and Radnorshire voted in the original 2016 referendum. Not much has changed and the mandate is muddied.

Why do remainers want nothing to do with parliament? It's the leavers talking of shutting it down, not the other way around.
