100th anniversary of the 1919 Chicago Race Riots yesterday

Two mothers in Chicago have been killed in a drive-by shooting as they stood on a street corner in an effort to deter gun violence.


So Americans can do irony.

Fine people on both sides.

Gun control will never happen.  It's far too late for that when you have tens of millions of heavily armed people who see gun ownership as their sacred right.  There would be a civil war of sorts.

I know the 2nd amendment is enshrined in the constitution but the numbers of deaths over the years surely undermines the original principles of self protection and the resistance to oppression

It has become part of their culture. But they do pay for it in the number of deaths by guns.

If either of the main parties says it will make guns illegal, would it be voted into power?

No

the problem is the size of the country; very difficult to get that amount of people to agree on anything. Nothing has changed mentally wise from the east to west in the last 150 years regarding firearms
