Nowhere near the quality it once was in my opinion
The mind boggles with tennis at the minute, a 37 year old is still cruising to GS finals ffs, where are the young guns?, you telling me a 21 year old can't compete against a 37 year old? no matter how well he looks after himself he's still a man pushing 40 ffs, how there's no 21 year olds coming through and knocking the likes of Nadal and Federer off their perches is extremely fishy Djockvic is no spring chicken either, almost 33 now and still wracking up major titles, Nadal and Djocks styles are not good on the body either, both have clocked up miles and should be on the decline rapidly |
|
By:
And their games rely on long baseline rallies, both weren't the quickest to begin with but at 33/34 they should be easy picking for a fresh young gun with no miles on the clock in my opinion
Federer has been on the decline since his early 30s as well, but the fact he's reaching major finals shows the sport is either **** or just plain awful quality |
|
By:
The 20 somethings are content with their millions.
They should be seething and embarrassed to be spanked by these 30 something legends time and time again. don't have the ability , ambition , drive , workrate and hunger . They are pathetic. |

sixtwosix
they should still be beating a 37 year old man who's literally in his slippers looking after nippers at home ffs He's 37 ffs, he's well passed his sell by date, esp in tennis terms |
|
By:
There's 24 year olds out there who can't get close to them, its a disgrace how these top 3 continue to share majors among themselves
Something stinks because we are talking about young guys vs old guys in a sport such as tennis, no matter how well they look after themselves makes no difference The young guys look after themselves as well, and have youth on their side |

The problem we've got which is the same in all sports is the TUE system which warps nature and father time to some extent, the further problem for us watching is that this information is confidential and protected by governing bodies who don't want anyone to be caught failing tests as it takes money from the game through sponsorships etc.
Think what will happen when the cash cows like Serena,Nadal,Federer etc. go they need personality and status to sell beyond these figures. |
|
By:
What total rubbish you utter, we have 3 GOATS playing in the same generation. These superb players dont just roll over to younger players.

I agree I think its a case of there's no "marketable" young gun, someone who the sheep can get behind and ultimately make them loads of money So the likes of Federer/Nadal/Djock are allowed to do whatever so as to stay at the top of the game, all about the money sadly Kygios isn't going to be "loved" by the crowd, and tennis fans need a "hero" to get behind |
|
By:
Federer should have long been retired
The quality was awful in that final, it made a decent spectacle but that doesn't detract from it being awful quality |

I get what you're saying but its not boxing, its a sport that requires speed, athleticism, agility etc The speed and agility goes once we hit 30, the athleticism can remain but it doesn't mean much when the speed and agility have gone, lose just a yard of pace in that game and its curtains or at least it should be. People say Federers style has meant he's been able to remain competitive, I would argue his style was built on finesse, speed and timing, all of 3 of those start to wane once we hit 30, the body tires and those 3 attributes start to disappear. |
|
By:
I think Federers natural ability that has kept him going.
|

maybe they're just freaks SS? I've never seen anyone as tough to break down as Novak. Fed is a gazelle & hasn't really had that many bad injuries to stunt his abilty. Most sports have legends then a load on numpties come along. We should enjoy what we've got because the numpties will be here soon enough
|
|
By:
said all afternoon quality was shocking, now listening to so called sports journo telling us best Wimbledon final ever, rollocks, most rallies ended in one or other going for a worldie shot because they were either to tiered or to bored knocking it back to each other, 2 baseline players don't work in mens tennis on grass, imo you need 1 and a serve and volley, but their is no one

there is some world class bollox spouted on this thread.
injury ends most players careers, improved medical procedures mean injury's can be treated where they previously could not be. They have all had surgery. Nadal's knee, Feds knee & back, Djokers elbow all may have been career ending in the past. It's not just tennis where players are consistently competing for longer. |
