I'd never heard of him either until I saw this thread and googled him.
Just watched him fight Sonny Liston.
Took the fight to Liston but Listons head made contact a few times giving Wepner cuts above both eyes.
Doctor called the fight over at the end of the 9th round. He certainly wasn't out of his depth.
I see he fought Ali. I'll watch that later.

I agree,I also am pretty certain he threw those 2 fight with Clay/Ali the second one 100% and the first he was like a concrete zombie.

Will do Denzil. I see that fight was in 1970 and he died later that year.
The first fight I remember was Liston and Patterson, who he destroyed, in 1963.

I've watched these on YT in the past so hopefully they'll all be still on.

The second Ali v Liston fight was shown live in selected cinemas throughout the country.
My brother and his mates went to Glasgow. Think it came on at about 5.00am. Was quite costly as well.
As you know it didn't last long. My brother didn't find it funny when I kept asking him if he'd enjoyed the fight.

Does anyone know if his wife slept with the Champ like he promised?

Why start off a rumour back in 76' that he took a $75,000 settlement cheque opposed to accepting 1% of all future worldwide royalties. In which all subsequent Rocky movies made well over $1 billion at the box office.....

...something doesn't sit right with me

i remember when ali fought wepner, not for the fight but for the picture
of wepner in local paper showing the state of his face. even in black and white it was
in quite some mess.

the film was a good watch, but...who knows the exact story ?

I have heard plenty of stories!

If anyone is interested they should try and find a Podcast from Steve Bunce for Radio 5 live about Chuck Wepner. It is hilarious and informative.

Does anyone know if the bear caught up with Wepner?
