Heading down to London for 3 days starting tomorrow. Not been in years and partner not since she was a wee girl. What attractions amongst the many are must sees? A lot seem over priced for what you actually get imo.

We are definitely going up the shard and booked a river cruise as it was included in the deal. NHM a cert too along with Borough market. Other than that we're open to suggestions.

TIA

NHM is great and is possibly the best free thing to do in town. The parks are great for a stroll at this time of year, especially Green Park. Why not try the Emirates Air Line which is a cable car that crosses the river at a height of 90m, you can get that from the O2 and it’s only around £4 for a ticket. Has fabulous views as you’d expect. Avoid Madame T’s and London Dungeon. Harrods will be busy but is still the finest store in the world and worth a walk round.

An evening meeting is on at Windsor on Monday, first race is @ 17.30. It's "Cuban night" with live music, you can get a train straight there from Clapham Junction. It's a lovely course and with a few beers and hopefully a couple of winners it's a really enjoyable night out.

Portobello Road, the world’s largest antiques market with over 1,000 dealers selling every kind of antique and collectibles....plenty of great food stalls there.

Depends on how much you're prepared to walk and if you enjoy walking! Hyde Park is my favourite. Less populated, huge tree lined paths and of course the bizarre sound and sight of parakeets! Bus to the north west corner and walk back is superb.

Walking around Horseguards, Whitehall, onto Houses of Parliament very nice. Big Ben covered in scaffolding though..

St Pauls Cathedral, walk across millenium bridge to the south bank with Globe theatre, Tate Modern, Golden Hind, Borough Hill Market and then the Shard. You'll see HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge.

There's a lovely walk from Victoria park in Tower Hamlets, along the canal to trendy Islington with all its cafes and restaurants. The canal trust have done a lot of work. It's very peaceful and clean.

Avoid the tube. Take buses.

river cruise a good idea from Westminster pier - especially downstream. A tour of the City of London on foot is very interesting - lots of hidden gems - what a city it would have been without the Nazi bombing!

London Zoo does a sleep with the lions thing where you stay overnight and get a guided tour of the zoo without all the crowds. A couple of couples I know raved about it, and it seems an obvious pairing with NHM but not if you've already paid for an hotel room elsewhere.

I've no idea why you'd want to go to Borough Market. It's a market. Though handy for the Shard I suppose. Similarly, Covent Garden is just a lot of shops.

If you like art, the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are next to each other in Trafalgar Square.

If you find yourself on the tube passing through Westminster Station, get out then stop and look round. You've got the Houses of Parliament (spoiled by scaffolding though, as @Injera notes) directly opposite and by turning your head you can see Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square & Nelson's Column. Downing Street is just up Whitehall but you can't really see anything. The Cabinet War Rooms (from where Churchill etc ran the war) are worth a look if WW2 history is your bag.

If you like food, there are Michelin-starred restaurants everywhere but you will probably need to book. On weekdays there is great street food from around the world in some streets. Not sure about weekends though.

last I went to london was 2013 i think.
my friend said if you want to see london, forget tube and buses. We did buy a day ticket but we only used the bus once that day!(excl the hin and zuruck journeys to the inner zone)

of course being only 24 helped. not sure how old you are spykes.
The thing that i liked the most was the massive history in the city.
During a walk in a random street i found Goethe's house too.

Brick Lane is a must. The best part of the city. Walking tour.

I found the old curiosity shop on a random walk there last year. Can't remember exactly where it was, but it's a shoe shop now. It stands out as being maybe 500 years older than every other building around it.

Up until I recently visited because of my trip to Paris , I like you had not visited London for years , SPYKES .

It could hardly be called a visit though , all I did was get off one coach and 10 minutes later get on another to Paris .

When I then returned to London four days later , I was then able to spend one enjoyable hour there .

In that one hour , I met more friendly Londoner's than I had met Parisians in the almost four days that I had spent
in the French Capital .

The info/tips , kindly being given here is also being appreciated by myself because I'll be most definitely returning to
our Wonderful Capital quite shortly .

My Grandmother was married to a Londoner . He was a right character , he spoke with the broadest cockney accent , I've
ever heard . His name was Tommy and I believe he was born in Chiswick . He came to Liverpool in the 40's and met my
grandmother in a pub .

I remember visiting Chiswick , as a boy along with My Mother, Grandmother , Brother and other relatives .
We all stayed for a week in Chiswick at Tommy's Sister's .

Barry , Her son was a very good friend of Gerry Francis , The QPR and England footballer .

Alternatively, you could go to Deptford Bridge and see woundedknee begging for changeLaughLaugh

if you end up in south Kensington and go to harrods, the V&A museum is only a 10 minute walk from harrods. your partner will love the stuff they sell in there, considerable lot cheaper than harrods and the sculptures and artifacts in the museum are top notch, christian dior show on at the moment too, £20 per person.
