He should have just said "it's ok, I was getting involed in a discussion about the ongoing march of German cheap supermarket beans on chit chat. The Fartzkrieg.".
(Judging by the rolled up leg he's either a mason or had the phone bandaged to his leg to avoid it showing in his trouser pocket. Sneaky, can't say that was impulsive really?).
