This morning I watched the guy who climbed the Shard on Monday, interviewed on GMB. Is he amazingly brave or completely stupid? I am one who suffers with the fear of heights and can't understand how a natural instinct does not kick in and put off certain types of people from doing this.
As a teenager I used to do some crazy things re heights with a group of mates. We climbed aerial towers and the like, hanging off the edge doing pull ups and stuff.
All changes when you have kids.

Philippe Petits high-wire walk between the twin towers has got to be one of the most the craziest things anyone has ever done, just watching that 2008 documentary Man on Wire made me feel queasy.

Othrer day two more people died taking "selfies" of themself, a regular occurrence, other week there was a video released of a chinese building climber falling to his death, as they do.
Stupid is surely a fair conclusion. Putting your life at severe risk for what? What PRECISELY is the cost/benefit analysis they do?

Vertigo is really my only Achille's heel in life now, I never had it when I was younger but it developed with a vengeance in the last decade or so. I wouldn't even scale a ladder to clean the top floor windows

I used to have more of a fear of heights when I was younger. I still get sweaty palms and tingles if I am overlooking a big drop, and even if I am watching someone scale a cliff or something in a film mac did you enjoy the jump? I am thinking of doing a tandem, my wife is totally against it though lol I do have a bit of a doubt when push comes to shove I might totally bottle it though.

Thank you for that J.C. I know what would happen to me, I'd throw up and then probably have a cardiac arrest! I've done a few bungee jumps in my 20's and been skiing on some iffy ski lifts but I could not (nor wish to) do either of those now.

I'm not the worst with heights but I did bottle out of going to the summit of the cobbler where you have to climb through the eye onto a tiny plateau on top.

Just Checking. You’re right, it is stupid, but there are certain benefits (aside from the adrenaline buzz) in certain situations.
Take my situation for an example. As an Irish gypsy growing up in Toxteth you had better make damn sure not to be a victim in that environment or your life will be a misery. We weren’t the hard kids, or the drug dealers, or the psychos. But doing what we did with the climbing dares etc somehow classed us as kids not to be ***** with and that was just fine with us.
