A couple of days ago I watched a programme about a double agent in WW2.  Afterwards, I looked him up on google and read his Wikipedia page.  That was all.  Today, I receive an email from Amazon telling me about a book called Agent Zigzag, which happens to be a biography of the said double agent.  In the past that would be a coincidence but I'm not convinced in today's world.

Alexa by any chance? You will be delighted to know that once 5G is switched on,together with your smart meter, they will be able to watch your every movement in your own house and hear what you have to say,  "BIG DATA IS THE NEW OIL",and one day soon you will know its true.Devil

You don't need Alexa or equivalent. Friend of mine has been telling me for months that every time he speaks about something with a friend an advert appears showing the exact same thing. I'm certain this is linked to his mobile Facebook app that is always on. I don't use Facebook and have not experienced the same at all, although I've no doubt this will filter through in time.

If this is true then there should be a copy each of Stacked Nurses and Fit and Forty winging their way to my letterbox as I write.

What's scary about this? That websites can read your browsing history?

You didn't go straight to wiki you used google, google make their money by targeted ads. Indeed, from google themself:
"Google is where people search for what to do, where to go, and what to buy. Your ad can appear on Google at the very moment someone is looking for products or services like yours. Whether they’re on desktop or mobile, a well-timed ad can turn people into valuable customers."
Amazon are very good at tracking what people want to buy. Just looking at their website if your cookie is still active enough to indicate it's you, next day you can have related stuff hitting your inbox, I get it all the time. A lot of these little ad boxes that appear on websites are amazon, it may well be they can be wired into amazon as well.

What appears on https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/history
Also ... you've not installed any browser addons to help with shopping and shopping comparison have you?
Are you SURE you didn't visit any other websites other than wiki, such as a guy talking about the book with an advert linked to amazon on it?

No alexa.  I think it's crazy that people happily put listening devices in their homes.

I very much doubt it's "spyware" it's just basic internet technology that has worked this way for years...
