Never heard of the **** until this weekend. First impression - the name - Stormzy. Sounds like a creation of Chris Morris, a character that Nathan Barley would have been down with. Then the music, possibly the most obvious, stalest, most risible, cliche ridden set of stock rhymes I could ever imagine. About as edgy and anti -establishment as my Aunt Winnie.

When everything is framed through the lens of race and religion then divisions will only deepen and the left love nothing more than doing just that. Then again, given that, would it be too much of a stretch to say that someone who has only released ONE album (of him talking over a drum machine) and whose highest single position in our ridiculous charts now is just six, might have been made HEADLINER of a major festival more due to a "#Very2019VirtueSignal" to a certain type of right on middle class audience than due to reasons that are not just about music? Given that's what his performance has been totally wrapped up in and shouted about and the current luvvie obsession with "diversity", it's not exactly a stretch. Also he's not the first black artist (despite all the "progressive" hype) to headline Glastonbury as Skunk Anansie did it 20 years ago! William Shatner did sh1t albums of him just talking instead of singing. Maybe he should come out as transgender and change religion, with enough #FeelGoodDiversityTickBoxes he could be headlining in 2021!  |
