have you ever known an ebay millionaire and if so what did he or she sell and how long did it take, apparently they've been 8,500 ebay millionaires made in the last 10 years, impressive!
"ebay Millionaire" is a term invented by eBay you'd think to market ebay and lazily repeated by the media. It's gross amount sold over X years since the seller started.
You sell £100k a year of stuff with a 10% margin making 10k just a year over 10 years and you're an "ebay millionaire", and that's not including any taxes on income to you. 10k a year isn't something to buy a ferarri with. Ok lets say it's 20% margin but ebay take .. 10%?
And of course unless traders doing a large enough amount of trade stop trading, the % of people crossing that margin over time is going to mushroom as they start passing the magic number. I'm not saying selling say 100k a year is easy, far from it, but it doesn't mean the person doing it is richer than someone working in a call centre.

Ebay make their money off a % of turnover so that is why they want to make it the key number in the mind of their customers. Selling high margin stuff in low quantities is not what Ebay want.

About 15 years ago I sold my 1966 world cup ticket stubs from the 3games at old Trafford on eBay one for £48 ONE FOR £30 and one for £28 . I think they only cost around 10 Old shillings and i,saw the games .they were Bulgaria .portugal.hungary and someone else I forget who
I had a ticket for the Portugal Korea tie that Portugal were losing 3-0 and went on to win .I waited for the bus but it was full and the next one was too late so I went home .I don't know what happened to that ticket .

Anyway I got to feed the cat.

Ebay take 10% on the sales price and postage. Paypal take an additional 3% (approximately).

Do not forget to pay your tax either....the Inland Revenue will come after you.
I know someone who did not pay his tax, he had to pay in the end and also pay an accountant to sort it out for him, not cheap
Tax is like Death very tricky to avoid.

You need to change accountants! - google Bermuda, Caymen Islands, Jersey, etc.
Failing that send a PM to Jacob Rees Mogg - his soul died 200 years ago (he is still wearing the same suit) but he can vouch for the fact that avoiding tax is like shelling peas if you know the "right" people.

Wonder if that holds for tipsters. One I follow is absolutely raking it in via Payp@l. I'd be amazed if he's declaring it

An Ebay millionaire isn't going to be literally a millionaire as has already been said. Like any power seller who has been around a long time will be an Ebay millionaire but how much do you really think they've made off it. Taking into account all the fees margins on Ebay tend to be ultra small due to all the price competition.
I was at a company that was selling like just over 100-150k of stuff a month on Ebay and after all costs it was making like £70k a year, and they were a registered charity which meant they paid zero fees (something I think might have changed now, but not totally sure).
To be an actual millionaire from Ebay you'd have to either have a huge margin which I would guess would mostly come from dodgy goods in the first place as there's a lot of fake items on Ebay that probably have a huge margin or be doing like a million a month in business which I doubt many accounts are.

I sure would like to how to deal on that one. Just for getting rid of some my junk would be a nice way dumping it. I just don't have a clue with stuff like that.

Apparerently people sell over facebook called "facebay", I only learned recently. I despise facebook so don't expect me selling my tat on there any time soon. I do like ebay though, it's fantastic for finding odd little things without all the hassle of having to sign up with individual retailers etc, the internet needs an ebay. Facebook can go * itself.

I've been selling stuff on there for a few years on and off, and its a bit of fun doing it.
You do pay about 13% in fees to ebay and paypal but you can still do okay just flogging your own junk.
(There was a time when you didn't have to offer paypal as a payment method so you made a bit more profit).
Just put in your ads saying you post goods every Monday or whatever (so that saves going to the post office every day),
buy your wrapping, sellotape, bubblewrap and a set of weighing scales cheap (on ebay!) and away you go.
Ericster - there's a walk-through video on ebay telling you how - and once you get started it gets easier.

Sellers have to cope with items going "missing" in the post. Imo, stuff rarely goes astray; more likely they are nicked by a postal worker or the buyer is trying it on.
I've noticed many sellers who previously sent items by standard delivery now using signed-for. I bought something from one such person and genuinely did not receive the item. He refunded me but the next time I tried to bid on one of his auctions, I found I'd been blocked!
