A great film...don't look what they do to his feet

French Guiana was where the French sent their prisoners, similar to what we did witth Autralia.
But there rhe comparison ends. French Guiana is too hot and humid for europeans. Out of 56,000 prisoners sent only 10%
survived. It was an evil place.

Devils Island itself was just off shore so prisoners were in better conditions there, slightly cooler.

I watched the recent version with Remi Malek ( before I had seen Bohemian Rhapsody ) and the bloke from the MC. Very good film but always wondered about the McQueen version as I had never seen it. The book has a resonance with me growing up. It was fat and phatt. I marveled at anyone who was 14 years old and could read such a thick book. I thought anyone who could read such a book at 14 must be incredibly intelligent.

So I guess I can watch the original on iplayer. I have to say the remake was reasonably sanitised. I expect the McQueen version to be grittier and a little more authentic, we shall see!

Dustin Hoffman is a great actor. Steve McQueen is a very average actor who was given good roles.

It`s an easy mistake to make. Remi - Rami.

The original is always better than the remake with regards to classic films.

Remi...Rami you say potatoe I say potato

But yes I hang my head in shame.  Well not really, minor lack of attention to deatil!

erm yes RLKingPunter. There has been a remake of Papillon. I didn't know Charlie Hunnan was a 'king Geordie mind you after his accent in green Street he could have been anything!
