3 for me...in Burger King, on the bus, and walking in the park.

I'm beginning to get used to it.

That is because we are heterosexual elisjohn

Men are encouraged to get physically close in our society,

I think they may be in some other societies, although I think they stop short of kissing on the lips...gays only there

When I lived and worked in Sydney it was an everyday occurrence to see men holding hands and kissing in parks and bars etc, nobody batted an eyelid. Same goes for women as well, nobody cared. In London hardly ever, maybe when I go to Brixton then yes sometimes but Soho and perhaps Covent garden aside it's surprisingly not all that common, in my neck of woods anyway.

I don't think it is that different anywhere in this country Slippy

What used to be known as the 'English Reserve'. Some other societies used to think we were repressed.

I think kissing on the lips is really a gay thing, some other societies would accept kissing on the cheek between two men

and women as well of course.

Only when Morris dancers are in the village .
But given the phallic significance of the Maypole , I'd suggest their holding hands sends a message in itself Blush

Oi you lot, spare a thought for how they might feel Silly

Being with someone they love but cannot show their feelings.  Think how you would feel if you couldn't hold your girlfriend's hand or kiss her in public.

I had a girlfriend for four years and we couldn't hold hands or kiss in public because we lived in a rough part of london and things were much worse over twenty years ago.
