British Airways owner International Airlines Group has announced plans to order 200 of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft, claiming its confidence in its safety.

The airline group said it was confident the aircraft could make a successful return to service.

The news comes after all 737 Max planes were grounded in March after an Ethiopian Airlines crash.

The Boeing 737 Max went down just six minutes after take-off in Addis Ababa, killing 157 people.

According to Boeing, the deal to purchase 200 Max jets was valued at more than $24 billion.

Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive said:  “We’re very pleased to sign this letter of intent with Boeing and are certain that these aircraft will be a great addition to IAG’s shorthaul fleet.

“We have every confidence in Boeing and expect that the aircraft will make a successful return to service in the coming months having received approval from the regulators”.

I stopped flying BA many years ago, this decision will not hasten my return to their flights Plain

what could have inspired this decision?

will they be doing another free flight promotion ?

Apparently, they secured a significant discount on list price.
Also, Willie Walsh is a former Boeing 737 pilot and has stated that the planes are now safe Scared

When someone is in a position to buy 200 Boeing aircrafts he probably has access to more information than average folk on chit chat. As long as he's sure the faults have been overcome this is indeed the perfect time to buy.

Its fatefully flawed because when AI kicks in,the pilots are rendered useless, thats why they had no control to save the planes that came down.

It's the ideal choice for short flights
Report detraveller June 19, 2019 12:26 PM BST
True terry. Pretty soon the pilot will be sitting in a control room on ground. Then you know who he will be working for. People on flights will be powerless and no one will be able to save them when the elites try to kill them in a plane crash with a simple press of a button.

They've been flying these 737s for years with few problems.

Then the new improved version comes along, and with it a severe flaw. Which is a bit like the Windows upgraded computer operating systems no one wants or asks for.

If it isn't broke don't mend it.

Artificial intelligence is the broader concept of machines being able to carry out tasks in a way that we would consider as smart

artificial: something that doesn’t occur naturally
intelligence: the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills

Artificial intelligence is machines acting in ways that seem intelligent

How can people and computers be connected so that collectively they act more intelligently than any person, group or computer has ever done before?
Report terry mccann June 19, 2019 12:47 PM BST
The answer is don't use the stupid thing

If this was a joke, I didn't get it.
But if you are serious, weather forecasting is one example.
IBM bought weather.com, wunderground and loads of other companies and used their historical data to build an AI based weather forecasting solution that predicts weather down to 0.2 to 1.2 miles radius.

Don't tell me people or computers were doing that before.

No joke, it is the challenge to all involved in the world of AI, simply builds on the worthy concept of continual improvement.

AI has the potential to bring significant benefits to the world, those benefits will be greatest only with a collective effort i.e. not having one player replacing the other
