Paul Crowther, 32, of Holeyn Road, Throckley, pleaded guilty to common assault and criminal damage at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court.
He was given 150 hours of unpaid work assessment and ordered to pay Mr Farage £350 compensation.
The attack, which involved a £5.25 banana and salted caramel milkshake, was described in court as being "politically motivated".
District Judge Bernard Begley said: "This was an act of crass stupidity."

Defence solicitor, Brian Hegarty, described Crowther's actions as a "moment of madness" and said his client now regretted what he had done.
Mr Hegarty said: "Ordinarily a man of his position would receive a caution.
"The fact is, it is said to be a politically motivated incident which has caused him to appear before this court and caused him to lose his good name."
Prosecutor James Long said his victim was shocked and embarrassed by the attack and said that for a split second, he would not have known whether it was milkshake, or "something more sinister".
Crowther was arrested at the scene after being filmed dousing Mr Farage.
He told journalists the act was "a right of protest against people like him", and said of Mr Farage: "The bile and the racism he spouts out in this country is far more damaging than a bit of milkshake to his front."

A Gofundme page entitled "Get Paul Crowther his milkshake money back" raised £1,705.

The hearing heard that Crowther had been sacked from his job as a Sky technical advisor.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Mr Farage was heard telling a member of security staff that he "could have spotted that a mile off".
Later that day, he said: "I won't even acknowledge the low-grade behaviour that I was subjected to this morning. I won't dignify it. I will ignore it.
"Perhaps keep buying new clothes and carry on."

The sad thing is, there's a lot more sheep who think exactly the same way. Imagine if this happened to a certain mayor, the media would have been frothing like a pack of hounds with severe rabies.

I would like the convicted criminal to also have to stand in a Libel/Slander court of law to defend his astonishing allegations.

Pleasingly, we saw a political slander case resolved this week, when one of those nice "progressive" sorts was required to account for his ludicrous claims. And naturally he couldn't.

why would you take a person with no money to court for libel?

SNP MEP Alyn Smith has issued an "unreserved" apology over his allegation that the Brexit Party is a "money laundering front".
Brexit Party chairman Richard Tice threatened to sue Mr Smith over the claim, which he made in a TV interview.
Mr Smith has now admitted he did not have any evidence to support his claim.

Nigel Farage’s Brexit party has been asked to check £2.5m it has received in donations to ensure it has come from legitimate sources.

The Electoral Commission will oversee checks carried out by the fledgling political party after criticising the way the party accepts gifts through online payment systems such as PayPal.

Money that cannot be traced should be returned to the donor or given to the Treasury.

expensive milkshake, but press couldnt help showing pics of farage covered in white stuff,
every half hour on the news.

why do press continue with that ? surely they should preserve his dignity by refusing to
show the pictures as thats what the knacker wants, and folk will be less likely to do it again
if they hammer the idiots with fines and comunity service, or jail, and refuse to carry their
propaganda message
