A bloke got an acid attack 5 minutes from my front door in Dulwich, a road rage incident apparently but the bloke had a bottle of acid on him. I would give him a 20 stretch for that.

The justice system and prisons needs a massive overhaul and reform.  This will never happen though, not due to cost, but because there is too much hand-wringing over the 'rights' of criminals.  The fact drugs and phones are easily obtainable 'inside' is a joke.  The idea of going to prison should make anyone, including 'gang' members, panic-stricken.  Sentences should be stronger too.  Drugs are the cause of so many problems and yet dealers get a few months inside.  As for unruly youngsters, it all stems back to the breakdown of the family unit.  It's acceptable to have children out of wedlock so you end up with single mothers who can't cope.  I'd wager the vast majority of those teenage 'gangsters' do not come from a home with a father and mother, with at least one parent in employment.  Children need and want discipline; to know where the boundaries are.  Sometimes it's a smack off the father, sometimes it's a detention at school.

yep nearly all primary school teachers are women too so a significant number of young boys have no real permanent male presence at all in their lives to keep them on the right path

Is that a fault of schools not employing enough men or men being too selfish to raise their kids?

Not a mention of Social Media , strange we have what appears to be a rise in gang culture at the same time as the rise in social media ,half of the sh1t that is going on is planned online .

Good luck with clamping down on drugs gangs when the Conservative leadership contenders are falling over each other to tell us about their drug use. The reason gangs sell drugs is that people buy them, and often very respectable people.

Good point, think they know this but have no idea whatsoever how to control it without major interference in such companies which of course comes down to money at the end of the day.

I respect theresa may as a person, but she was a product of a religous middle class upbringing who thought that other people were like her, decent.  So, as home secretary brought in stricter stop and search requirements - knife crime has soared since then.

quote any tory about any problem and they,ll go back 10 years to blaming what labour left them, as knife crime was rising in boris last 2 ywars in power only fair that boris shares his share of the blame for the cess pit that London is, yet the tory,s,media, boris  use London as  reason he should be PM, unbelievable,as London mayor to use his language he spaffed millions upon millions on failed project after failed project and piggy backed labours/jessa jowels Olympics as his success

This is from a 2007 article:

Black boys in lone parent families develop a "father hunger" that can tip them into crime, MPs say today.

Six in 10 black Caribbean youngsters live in single parent households, invariably with their mothers, and this is three times the proportion in the white population.

The absence of a male role model is seen as a key factor in the "over-representation" of young black men in the criminal justice system.

The situation isn't helped by the negative role models these boys look up to in the music world.

"Rappers glorify guns and drugs and violent computer games normalise these behaviours."

Anyone found in possession of a blade should get a mandatory 5 years custodial, a repeat offender should be locked up for life.
