Two oil tankers have caught fire after being attacked in the Gulf of Oman.
One of them, the Front Altair, was "suspected of being hit by a torpedo", Taiwan's state oil refiner CPC Corp said. It was "on fire and adrift", according to maritime intelligence firm Dryad Global. The blaze was caused by an explosion, according to International Tanker Management, which operates the vessel. The other tanker - Kokuka Courageous - was attacked twice in three hours, the president of Japanese owner Kokuka Sangyo told reporters, and breached above the waterline, igniting a fire in an engine room. International shipping association BIMCO said the ships may have been damaged by mines. No country or group has said it was to blame. |
