A mother walking with her three-year-old son asleep in a pushchair was stabbed after she refused to hand over her mobile phone.
Christel Stainfield-Bruce, 36, was approached by a teenager in Islington, north London, on Friday afternoon who initially asked her for directions.
He then said "give me your phone" and after she said "no" he stabbed her in the thigh before fleeing empty-handed.
The Met said no arrests had been made.
Officers said the suspect was 5ft 3in tall black male of large build, wearing dark-coloured clothing, including a jacket and trucker-style cap.

Maybe the public should join the police in wearing body cams.
The biggest shock about this dreadful story is that a useful description of the suspect has been published.

I would have liked the description to have included one final line.
"So, if you are aware of any freakballs in this locality, please let us know ASAP".

Gang initiation was the theory (even the victim suggested it, possibly reflecting what she'd heard from the police) when the attacker was thought to be of school age.
Now he is 26, it must surely be mental health issues. A failed mugging and pointless stabbing: what else could it be? He's clearly not a hardened criminal; it makes no sense as a terrorist act. Another triumph for care in the community.

Not really sure what ocean-going immigrants have to do with this North London stabbing. Surely they all have alibis: they were on a boat aimed in the vague direction of Dover.
