Yes, Bap. I heard about this earlier. I thought Grieve had already been deselected. Didn't he lose a vote of no confidence earlier this year at the local CA?

i would settle for the whole Cabinet getting the finger. I know there's others feel that way. As always lately though, too many cowards in the way. But this is the members & i'm hoping they kick ass. Grieve was warned to start supporting Brexit, so it looks like he hasn't heeded

I am pretty sure that Tory Party rules dictate that a constituency party alone cannot deselect their sitting MP, unless and until an election is called.

Under the Conservative Party Constitution, members can effectively deselect their MP by moving a motion of no confidence at a Special General Meeting. They need 10% or 50 members to do this |

just to clarify; An Act to make provision about the recall of members of the House of Commons; and for connected purposes. The Recall of MPs Act 2015 (c. 25) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that makes provision for constituents to be able to recall their Member of Parliament (MP) and call a by-election.

but they are only passing a motion of no confidence. This only "effectively deselects" the member IF the executive body choose to act/vote upon it, which typically midterm they usually choose not to.

you are nit picking, as i have already said i hope the members kick ass! the EB has to stand up and you or i cannot be certain mid term or not that they won't. We are about to pick a new leader & you are presuming they won't, i suggest that is wrong

Bap... - I may be!; Actually I have no involvement, and little interest, in the inner workings of the Conservative Party. I am though interested in democratic processes. My point remains that a Conservative Constituency Party cannot alone "deselect" their MP, nor can they alone call for a by-election. I hope you get your wish as to the future direction of your party.

Tory brexiteers must be dumb as rocks. Already the idiotically timed confidence vote in May which gave her about 3-4 months longer than she would have had otherwise.
Now trying to deselect MPs when Boris already needs the DUP to get a Queens Speech through. If they start culling remainer MPs then why will these people be keeping Boris in power. Would be a nice chance for a FU to these constituency members. |
