When I was working out the actual MPG of my 1.6 petrol car I gauged that it was costing me between 12p and 14p a mile. I also determined that summer months was cheaper than winter.

Make of that what you will.

For some reason I have always thought it was 15p diesel 18p petrol. No wonder my spreadsheets never matched up with my pay slips Grin

No longer have to worry about these things but why on earth is the Diesel allowance less when it costs up to 5p more per litre and the cars cost more in the first place so higher depreciation and spares? It used to be profitable to register a car in a company name if you owned the company but in the last few years that I ran one it was better to buy the car back from the company and run it yourself.

Diesels go further on a litre of fuel than petrol engines. Plus, over the last few years the use of diesels is being discouraged.

When I worked I got all my petrol paid for including private use albeit the taxman took £20 a month from me.
Was well worth it though.
