Chernobyl - SKY Atlantic

Sounds Good ,that for the Nod

excellent  series,  very disturbing. concur with op.

Agree 100%. Best tv in years.

Spectacle, bravery, self sacrifice, tragedy, sorrow, intrigue, it has it all, a veritable emotional rollercoaster. Each episode rewards repeated viewing, I can't ever remember saying that about a tv series before.

A warning though, harrowing isn't the word.

Just read a few of the reviews on imdb. The first half dozen or so are all from people from that neck of the woods and they all agree how the attention to detail with this is spot on, save a couple of non important issues. All 10/10

It is very good but we wont ever know how accurate it is.

I have obtained the first 2 Episodes will watch the weekend .. Cheers

This sort of series would interest me actually. I do remember from what I've read about this there was lots of real heroism, men working to try and stop it knowing it would lead to their own certain death with totally inadequate radiation protection. You've got to respect that.

I’m not one for docusoaps ,but this made me think?spent many hours looking on the net for the truth, and I’ve come to the conclusion we are all fooked, but governments won’t tell ya,

A great quote in the documentary, people should keep thier minds to thier labour not the state?

I've watched 4 episodes also and agree it's compulsive viewing, what also intrigues me is the locations and the attention to detail, does'nt look like CGI so top marks all round.

Yep gree ,I believe you can now visit the place via a coach trip,no proctetive gear just walk around the place for about 5k, is it me ?

And they say wish sheep are mad?

If you dig further on the internet you will find plenty accounts contrary to the Russian heroism narrative portrayed ,the initial responders had no idea the burning stuff all over the site was carbon from the fuel rod core ,yes there were individuals that were coerced to go beyond the call and give their life but many were ignorant of the scale of the risks . The entire nuclear plant was an accident waiting to happen from the moment it came online ,there was supposed to be power from another generation source ,it was designed so there would always be power from another power station and if there was probs that power would be used during shutdown period to power coolant pumps ect . The other power station never made it anywhere near and as such it was impossible to shut the plant down safely ,if at all . Site was designed around being a junction of two power stations . There was not enough power to shut down reactor ,hence the experiment that led to the disaster ,they wanted to push the limits so steam fed generators would run long enough after shut down ,so even if there was probs they planned to ramp up the core and then shut down . It was so avoidable and so was Fukushima ,ffs a nuclear reactor in the worlds worst country for earthquakes ,design was deeply flawed and this is an ongoing disaster as is Chernobyl . Yes 250k people worked in the supply chain to help stop the problem at Chernobyl but the truth is simple ,man is not capable of safely handling this substance yet or cleaning up the mess or putting in place safety measures so it can’t happen again elsewhere .

Watched 1 n 2 Very Good

Watched 3 have 4 Lined up for tomorrow , Cannot think of a worse way to Die ,Prob coz there is not one

Waiting for the Finale Very good series

9 plus 0n IMDB

On at 9pm EST, I think thats an hour from now GMT... ? If so i'll stay up.

part 5 is on at 2.00am in uk.

my bad, thanks.

I remember the fall out dropping over parts of Scotland. It wasn`t until 2010 that livestock in effected areas were finally given the all clear.

Great drama about a tragic event.

Good job we never had social media and the likes back then, because i truly believe it wouldn't have been covered up as much as it was by the Russians, and the fall out would have led to sheer panic, of which we'd never seen before, millions and millions leaving there homes in europe to get as far away as possible, it could have started another war.

Good call HGS,

Have not watched it yet but will give it a go. Got to watch Deadwood first! Don't know though if it a new series or just a one off film! Loved the first two series of Deadwood. The Wire was another favourite. Never got properly into the Sopranos for the whole consequential run and have never got past the first 30 minutes of Breaking Bad but am told I should.

Fantastic finale to this brilliant series.lots of info at the end i had no knowledge about.RIP to those who perished and those still affected.

Sopranos and Breaking Bad deffo worth watching through whispering, especially the former. Probably my fav series of all time.

9.7 IMDB has to be the Greatest rating of all time

fantastic series.

gripping stuff.

Whisper Breaking Bad You get passed an hour or two you will be Addicted

I heard that boys,

Just waiting for a shetty rain filled Holiday.

Breaking bad is The Dogs.

I'm with Vigin, so no Sky Atlantic...

Do I have any other options?

please.

DVD being released 8th July on Amazon. £14.99. Dunno if its cheaper earlier anywhere else.

Chernobyl is excellent, however if you've seen "breaking Bad" you must see "The Wire" utterly brilliant but you might need subtitles though.

And if you like Better call Saul, watch Sunderland till i die.

Just finished watching it.  Also with Virgin, but got NowTV for £7.99 a month and it's on that.  Some other good stuff on there I want to watch (Billions, Veep, Sopranos), so will get money's worth then cancel the subscription unless there's anything else I want to watch as well.

VEEP is the watch

should be Veep is well worth the watch

It is exceptional.  Right up there with the best tv or films I've ever seen.

Puts me off British actors playing Russians
Better off das boat or Deutschland 83 type subtitles

Your right Fattie I was quite taken aback when The Miner spoke in a Glaswegian accent.

I am still enjoying it though, two left to watch.

Due to having to wait to watch it with the mother in law who hasn't got SKY, I have just watched the final episode. Not disappointed. This really is the best TV made in a very long time. The English certainly helped with the court room scenes. Might have been a task watching, hearing and reading the subtitles and taking them in.

Simply brilliant.

Simply brilliant ,begs the question, really, it wasn’t a show ,millions of people died ,and still will, never mind welsh sheep

I agree with Fattie and acey. Should have been made with Russian actors and English subtitles to make it more authentic, just like Das Boot and Downfall. Acey spot on regards the Russian miner with the strong Glaswegian accent Good actor though.

You cannot possibly hire high standard of actors who have a russian accent, just plain silly. The story will always shine through if you can handle the accents.

Many of my favourite films/series are Scandinavian.

We never said actors with Russian accents, we said Russian actors speaking their native tongue with English subtitles.

I like Scandinavian films too but only in their original language with English subtitles. If they are dubbed in English, I switch off.

You are doing Russia a discredit even thinking that they don`t have actors of a high standard and obviously have not watched many Russian films.

I don`t think Das Boot, Downfall, etc would have been as good in English.

.... anyway it`s besides the point, each to their own. Terrific series and well acted.

Incredible story . Yet again the whole debacle / tragedy driven by greed and shrouded in deception. It is the way of the world as we know it.

Very good adaptation of the event

Tragic story John, yes, but the zombies view is about the actors , .... this still effects people, today, it’s not a f00king show ,it’s reality ,

Am also enjoying this and have just the last episode to go.

I had to laugh during one of the earlier episodes to see Victor Mcguire -AKA Ron Wheatcroft from "Goodnight Sweetheart".

^ I rest my case, monkeys could have been the actors, and that is disrespectful of monkeys...

I always thought boys from the black stuff was the best series ever for grit and reality, but Chernobyl beats it.

The actors are used specifically  watch the American and the Chinese versions,

To mock the situation, **** actor rubbish film, it’s forced in the brain.

someone on twitter other day was complaining about lack of black actors in series, i kid you not.

.really mh?

aye, hold on, will get link

https://www.rt.com/news/460958-chernobyl-hbo-racial-diversity-actors/?fbclid...

to be fair the person got torn a new one

Ty bud hope is all gone,

So , do you think it's a good series condit?

aye, think it was oscar wilde said something about keeping quiet.

Good question HG, yep it was good, but, nearly 25 years after the incident, part of the true comes out,..as mentioned before ,Welsh sheep...spent many years studying bud,it bypasses people but not sheep.

And don’t get me going on cancer,..because I might do a run Saturday

Go for it. No footy to stop ya!

,yup plenty on telly ,killer sharks, snakes insects ect..and there’s mc Donald’s we can eat the f00kers,still it’s our weekend

Never heard of a Black Russian?

..... I`ll get me coat

they need to keep events as realistic as possible  .... so whites only here please  .

much like i think Eastenders should be mainly black /asian etc  unless its based on the historical east end   ...but obviously its not

Black Russian very good

Has a Black actor ever played Hitler?

I have another joke conditor but I`d get banned.

saw cleveland brown in an episode of family guy play a nazi brownshirt.

We are all brothers, until governments want us to play sport, then the game changes ,does it not?

We live in a pc mad world. Everybody is same to me regardless of colour or creed but it`s all went ott.
