Great acting rather let down by a sub par plot and script was my view.

Watching now, already formed a view but wonder what others make of it.

I thought it was a totally excellent film, I've seen it about 4 or 5 times and it never fails to disappoint. I give it a very solid 9.5/10 and that is not a score I dish out lightly. Frances McDormand is easily my favourite actress (Fargo being one of her best films)as well.

Excellent film. No character is wasted. They all offer something, often unexpectedly.

It's dark with some violence but also humorous and heartwarming. Love the ending although many didn't.

I really liked the ending as well Injera but like you say, not everyone 'got it'. I don't give films 9.5/10 unless I think they are absolutely excellent!

I was really looking forward to seeing it.
It was well enough acted, but overly violent and VERY miserable, quite unlikely as a story and the ending wasn't great.
6/10

I watched it on slippy`s recommendation. Very good. Ending implied a sequel is planned.

Thought it was quite good overall, but poor in parts. Mcdormand, Harrelson and others turned in excellent performances, but some of the scenes seemed totally out of place. Editing and storyline failures took 2 off my score of 6/10.

Very good film, dark and different from the normal hollywood script.

cant wait for the op to give it 6/10.

Weighty themes, successful formula, sensationalism, strong words; I had to keep checking that the script hadn't been written by Roy Keane. 4/10

but nothing about the acting Crazy

Where did the script go wrong  ?

I thought the film was dishonest in that it tried to impress the audience at every turn rather than bear faithful witness to a real story. The acting was good - they’re good actors - but they served a flash script rather than anything more meaningful. That’s just my two cents; I agree with the minority view, I found the film annoying, a kind of showing off, but can’t deny it is a popular success.

Giving it a 6... which equals average... Silly

But who would give it a 4!! that's ridiculous! Makes me think the whole fred was a setup. (just attention seeking)  Crazy

Perhaps you could post a movie / movies that would score above average?  Expecting some Japanese/Korean pretentious BS, for some reason. Plain

prétentieux, moi?

I suppose 4/10 is a bit mean (I don't really grade films out of ten), I can live with 6/10.

The swearing was very much ott and added very little.

It's a film I look forward to seeing again though and that's unusual for me. So much dross out there.

Couldn't see the fuss about it myself. Seemed rather crass in dealing with racial things too. They had the idea they were making a film about 'The South', but Missouri is in the Mid West and would never be thought of as The South, other than by people ignorant of the history.

It was funny, the interplay between the copper and his mother Laugh

Also I thought woody's script was very good

tbh, my communication skills are pretty carp.. I was trying to refer to Ibrahima Sonko's post earlier, where he predicted a 6 from you.. Blush

I consider the movie very good.. Please give me a couple of examples of what you would consider a very good movie...

Well, for example, Fargo is a much better film than Three Billboards imo. That film has everything in the way of sensation and brilliant dialogue to match 3 billboards but also a moral dimension that to me seemed notably absent from 3B. And I guess most of the films I love have that: On The Waterfront, Ben Hur, Schindlers List are favourites of mine. Or tragic hero films like Raging Bull and Unforgiven. I like weepies too. Anything with heart. I'm a bit of a melt.

I was annoyed by 3B and I think Martin McDonagh is a showpony. But he's made a film for $15m and it's made $150m and he's stolen the star of Fleabag from her husband, so I guess he'd just tell me to F**k off and hate him 'til it kills me.

Really was expecting a 1984 or a Citizen Kane but you did get a cheeky On The Waterfront in.. Happy

Me thinks maybe your 4-6 was overly influenced by your blind dislike of McDonagh...

ps. you do own seven samurai on dvd... ?? Grin

Compare 3 billboards w/ Fargo.. one is a flashy script, the other is a flashy script w/ a message that stays with you afterwards. I can enjoy 3B as a show contrived for effects - like a musical - but it's pretending to be something else.

a lot of 3b looked staged,it was trying too hard to be out there......,worth a watch but the plaudits for it i dont get, fargo far superior

Fargo is better than 3B, like your choices of Schindlers List,Raging Bull and Unforgiven. Unforgiven is a masterpiece.
