One scene from one film that moves you

The Russian Roulette scene in The Deerhunter stands out by a mile for me.

The final courtroom scene in A Few Good Men.

Did you order the code red?
You're goddam right I did !!!!

The closing minutes of 'Casablanca' at the airport quite unforgettable.

Likewise.

THe Haunting of Hill House, sure it was Episode 5, I was actually  Choked and Speechless at the end of it

A quite Brilliant series , if you are to Horror Ghosts etc

La Marseillaise in Casablanca!

one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history, nuff said!

kincsem- very good

Shawshank ending pretty good...

I'll have to go with Acey on this one. I'm not Christopher Walken's greatest fan but that scene in The Deer Hunter certainly touched a nerve with me

OP... Still I get goose bumps.

this one works for me too.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2FXl1Vic9Y

The last scene in a film called Fat City .The characters , played by Stacy Keach and Jeff Bridges are sitting in a cafe late at night ordering a coffee , and Keaches character makes a comment about the very old chinese man who serves then .
He says something like " How would you like to wake up in the morning and be him " and bridges replies " Maybe he's happy " and keaches character , Billy Tully replies " Maybe we're  all happy " he looks at the old man and smiles . It's a moving scene .It's a good film .I believe it was rated by Ring magazine as the best film about boxing ever made . Check it out if you haven't seen it .

The Firing Squad scene in The Victors with in the background  the song 'Have yourself a Merry Little Xmas'
its on youtube of course

Moves, though not in the way I suspect the OP was necessarily wanting:

The potting shed scene from 'Scum'

Terrifyingly brutal

Another great scene that always moves me is the last scene in Night of the Hunter (1955) . It's the scene were the little boy John , gives as a Xmas present , an Apple wrapped up in tissue paper to Rachel Cooper , the character played by the great Lillian Gush .
The film ends with her looking into the camera to comment about children , she says "They abide and they endure " . It's a beautiful scene from a classic film . Directed by Charles Laughton .

Gish , NOT , Gush . Predictive text Sh1t

legend.when the two brothers were on the floor fighting.very sad.

good ones on here, The Hunter in particular. I remember "duelling banjos" from Deliverance with fondness.

Paul Newman - Cool Hand Luke

Not a film but the ending to Still Game was incredibly moving.

The Elephant man for me, at the doctors house showing a picture of his mother and saying I must have been a big disappointment ,everytime

This takes some beating for me from Any Given Sunday

The Theory Of Everything when Stephen Hawking ( Eddie Redmayne ) was giving a lecture near the end and a student drops her glasses and Hawking goes back to his youth with an out of body experience goes out of his wheelchair and goes and hands her glasses back ......gets me everytime, saddest thing ive ever seen .

Another scene from a film that always move me , is from
Picnic at Hanging Rock . The scene were the young aussie on a horse
rides out to the rock , to look for the missing girls , and he finds
one there who is still alive. . .I must have seen that film 4 or 5 times
and that bit always makes me cry .

Schindlers List was filmed in black and white but there's a scene where we see a young girl wearing a red coat.

Later in the film there's a scene with a pile of dead bodies and there's the red coat again.

Paths of Glory - a Kirk Douglas film.

The girl singing in the cafe.
The jeers subside, they listen and tears roll down a few cheeks.

That was my number 2!!

SOPHIES CHOICE: Scene where mother has to choose which child goes to the gas chamber in concentration camp and the other one lives. Doesn't get any tougher than that.

I've brought that one up on the forum before, that's the #1 one for me, the way she's sort of helpless walking around not knowing what to do and we know what's going to happen, and you just want to do something to help but can't, it's genius, and sould destroying at the same time.

Thats an odd one. They were battle weary French soldiers from the front and she was a German (whatever she was) forced to sing while crying.

In my book the fact 3 soldiers were shot by firing squad as sacfrice as an example when they could have done no more was more significant I'd have thought.

Some really excellent choices here and it's a tough choice to name one scene but I would have to go for the end scene in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest when Chief smothers Randle McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), absolutely harrowing and Chief didn't want him to live life as a zombie and killed him.

There's a very moving scene in the John Ford film , The Searchers .
Ethan Edwards , played by John Wayne , has for years looked to exact
revenge on the Indians who killed his brothers family and also kidnapped
his niece . He finally finds those Commanches responsible for those crimes
and he also finds that his kidnapped niece , Debbie is still alive and being
held captive by them .

What makes the scene very moving is that your not quite sure if Ethan Edwards
Will harm Debbie when he finds her, or rescue her . You're not sure because he has so much hatred
for the Indians and he believes that she, after living with them for years , has become one of them .
Anyway , big john and his buddies , raid the Indian village and during the commotion
he sees his niece , frightened , running away ,it appears he is very angry as he chases after her . She falls to the ground , he then climbs off his horse and picking Debbie up  he
raises her above his head
and says with obvious love " Let's go home , Debbie"

Classic film . Possibly the greatest western ever made .
It's my Fathers favourite film .
I must have seen it at least
10

Yep , That's a good call , Sloppy .

Slippy ,NOT Sloppy .

How are you doin , by the way , Slop , ha ha .

I'm jokey donkey , not been here for a couple of months .

Okey dokey, I typed and it comes out as , jokey donkey . I'm using my tablet .

The courtroom scene from the untouchables where they switched the jury's was pretty good with de Niro and Costner.

I've never been called 'Sloppy' before ! 'Skippy' plenty of times but never Sloppy! I'm really well Culvin and thank you for asking, all is very good with me and I'm off to Spain on Monday for 10 days, it's about 27C there so will crash out on the beach reading a couple of books and no doubt a couple of cold beers will be imbibed with a few mates so looking forward to getting out of London for awhile. I hope all is well with you Culvin

Yep , Things are fine & dandy with me at the moment, too .
Hope you have a great time in Espana , and while your
drinking your beer make sure you don't spill any of it
otherwise you may well be known as sloppy , ha ha .

Take care , you chit chat legend.

The final scenes in Breaker Morant where he and Peter Handcock are executed and Morant"s last words are shoot straight you bastaards don"t make a mess of it.

Dusty,
Get someone else explain it to you.

“If you build it..(then Ray Liotta turns his head and looks towards a gentleman taking off his baseball gear).........HE will come”

Clockwork Orange.... singin in the rain

Reading through this thread made me think of an interview I saw many moons ago with the Director David Lynch, in which he makes reference to the “eye of the duck” (EOTD) scene. The pivotal scene, or fulcrum which provides symmetry and throws the body of the film into some kind of sharp relief.

So in the spirit of the EOTD i’ll choose this from my fav Lynch effort … Lost Highway

https://youtu.be/qZowK0NAvig

That is a good choice woundedknee.

When James Coburn blows himself up at the end of "A Fistful of Dynamite". I couldn't believe it. He could have made so many more films

But seriously:

The final scene of Cinema Paradiso
The words of Hitler's secretary at the end of Downfall

Also like the choices for Cool Hand Luke and Paths of Glory

Cinema Paradiso - the final scene when Salvatore watches Alfredo's reel and discovers it comprises all the romantic scenes that the priest had ordered to cut from the movies.

Moon - When Sam (unaware that he is a clone) manages to phone home to speak to his wife Tess but the phone is answered by his daughter who says that Tess died some years ago and then shouts "Dad, there's someone on the phone asking about Mum"

The Lives of Others - when the Stasi agent opens the book and sees that it is dedicated to him

TBH I think there is a lot of cowardice in this thread.

I'm pretty damned sure quite a few of you got very teary eyed at various points in the Toy Story series, but are scared to admit it on a public forum.

This is 2019 men, admitting it on such a welcoming and friendly forum as chit chat is no shame. This is a safe space, there are no insults or mocking here!

Okay you got us bang to rights JC so I'll start the ball rolling.
I cried when Jaws got killed.

That's a fair call.
#BondVillainSidekicksMatter.

The suspence in the first 15 mins of Inglorius Bastards with the jews hidden under the floorboards while the Jewhunter Nazi played a game with the Farmer knowing all the time they were there was unreal - that's got to be up there as well. What a film that was .

'The Road' - when they find the bunker
'Forrest Gump' - when Tom Hanks says 'Is he...?' about his child possibly being stupid
'Sense And Sensibility' when the magnificent Emma Thomson breaks down learning that Edward (Hugh Grant) isn't married
and two from
'The Shawshank Redemption' The tarmac roof/beer scene and when Red visits the tree and finds the box

* Emma Thompson

and will add:- from when Ralph Fiennes enters the town of Bruges, onwards, to tie up loose ends

When I was a kid and I saw King Kong (1932film) , I got very upset and I cried when King Kong was killed .He was a big naughty monkey , but I loved him .

I watched the film quite recently for the first time in over 20 years
and I was surprised to find myself thinking it was a bit rubbish .

I still love Kong , though .

Just Checking

Men get hay fever.

One scene that confused me was Jennifer Jason Leigh's reaction to the guitar smashing in 'The Hateful Eight' - It didn't appear to fit the scene. Why would her character be THAT concerned about it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjOKyC1pGDE

The truth is that it was a borrowed and priceless 1870's Martin guitar that was supposed to be swapped, but wasn't! The reaction is genuine... and also priceless.

I fill up when watching the last couple of minutes of Le Chateau De Ma Mere . It never fails .

When I first saw "The Master" in Salem's Lot that made me jump!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLLW5jFcRtI

Les Miserables always gets me.  Jacknife was a film I found very moving too, although don't recall a particularly scene moving me, rather the films as a whole.

Béatrice Dalle as 'Betty Blue' and the last part of the film where she descends into a life of insanity is very tough to watch. I did like the film a great deal but it's not one I would ever care to see again having said that.

One more, "Let him have it". The scene lasts less than a minute

www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYbEjy3Y1_I

Yeah that toystory was a chocker

That reminded me of another
The Time Traveler's Wife- Where he briefly appears from the woods and his kid sees him and runs to fetch his wife who just arrives in time before he disappears
I thought that would have been even better if she didnt make it in time

Pat Garret and Billy the Kid, where Slim Pickens character gets pumped full of lead and bleeds out, Knocking on Heavens door playing in the background.

here it is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjR7_U2u3sM

Carousel (1955) Julie Jordan's (Shirley Jones), Sweetheart , Billy Bigelow, (Gordon MacRae) has just been Shot and killed , during an attempt to commit a robbery , a robbery he attempted to raise money so he could marry Julie , and care for their unborn kid

As he lays dead in the street , Julie , holds/hugs him , and then
With her cousin , Nettie , by her side , she begins to sing

' You'll never walk alone'.

" When you walk through a storm hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the . ."
She's too upset to sing anymore , so Nettie,  sings the song for her .

" When you walk through a storm hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind , walk on through the rain ,tho your dreams be tossed
and blown .
Walk on , walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
you'll never walk alone "

It's a real tearjerker, and myself being a Liverpool FC fan ,
gives the scene further emotional power .

Regarding the game on Sat
Good luck to Liverpol
Good luck to Tottenham
May the best man win.

As an impartial lets hope Spurs do it

Roddy McDowell holding his dead father at the end of "How Green was my Valley,  always gets me

I've not seen 'How green was my valley' for years . The last time I saw it , I think I was still in school .The scene you mention I actually
don't remember, but if I saw that film again and the moving scene you mention
I know that I would cry a bucket .

I know that , because of my own feelings of love for my own Father .
He's 89 years young .I loved him very much when I was a child , but I hated his guts when I was a teenager .
I now have more respect and regard for him , than anyone else I know .
This will make you laugh , Baphornet .
He's just returned from spending 3 weeks in Cyprus , he went there
with his considerably younger girlfriend .I helped him pack his bags when he
left 3 weeks ago , and among the items he packed were condoms and viagra , ha ha .
He's still got lead in his pencil .
Good on him , and God Bless him .

lovely post Culvin. The scene i mention is right at the end when the stricken miners are winched up from down below. No tears from the excellent McDowell;  just a look of pure bewilderment

Baphornet , How have you been , friend .
It's been quite awhile since I remember having a chitchat
with you . I think you're a bloody good un.

I'm ok at the mo , but not too long ago , 3 months or so , I was in a very dark
sH1tty place , that's why I wasn't much here .

All the Best .

keep up the good fight Culvin! No one will help us escape a dark place but ourselves. I personally crush a few anglo bubbles in my mouth when the clouds are arriving. Calms me down no end. All the best to you as well

when tufnel rejoins tap on stage, gets me every time.
