You can't actually deliver an form of Brexit atm until you come up with a majority for one. No dealers, Tory Brexit, Labour Brexit, all are totally incompatible and that is the problem Brexit is fighting. This all stems from the mistakes made in 2017, the consensus for what Brexit was going forward should have been decided then, in 2019 they still haven't decided and they have actually made finding a consensus far less likely now as people have moved towards the extremes (either remain or no deal with no compromise).

If they'd actually done that in 2017 we would have been out now.

Running a referendum leave vs remain would be absolute idiocy, no way they would do that, that's what go us in the mess in the first place. Leave has to stand for something otherwise you will just have another 3 years debating what it is if it won.

May failed if anything because she pandered too much to the leavers, her initial plan was to pander to the ERG, problem was that plan didn't have the majority and the ERG were also unreliable. The consensus found in 2017 almost certainly would have moved us towards a softer Brexit closer to the lines that Labour advocate now, but even a lot of Labour MPs wouldn't vote for it unequivocally now, but would have in 2017, very few MPs were out to just stop Brexit in 2017, it was May that forced them into that position, and it will be the Conservatives that force Labour into that position in the coming months.

The Democratic Vote was widely accepted on day 1. It took until about day 500 until it started heavily swinging against it when it became clear it was going to be a shambles.

FFS it's like listening to someone in a parallel universe. Labour and the SNP have tried to use the vote for their own ends since day 1. Labour trying to look every direction at once, and trying to win a GE out of it. The SNP to get independence. Some in the Tories against it. Since day 1 Westminster has stuck a huge middle finger up at the people who pay their wages.

Well I would agree the vote should never taken place without a leave strategy in place, as that was one of the key flaws from the off.

Very few were undermining it from day 1, look at 2017 general election, who was really running on against the referendum, not many, it was only once May took the direction she did with zero consensus from parliament towards the end of 2017 that things started moving rapidly against it. From that point on it was obvious you weren't going to get a Labour Brexit so why would Labour be for it? They are meant to be the opposition, there was zero attempt from the Conservatives to reach a consensus with them until like 2019 when it was feeble at best.

The problem was May thinking after the Gina Miller case and then losing her majority in the general election that she could still get away just doing whatever she wanted, that was never going to work when her own party was so divided on Brexit anyway. May set her own hard red lines without zero consensus from parliament and from that point on that road was certain to fail, yet May has managed to the continue the charade for like 18 months. Heck when May originally brought the backstop back in December 2017, it was labelled a triumph in the media, showing how May could get something out of the EU, how times change.

So 1.48 is free money?? Surely you would be taking it down to 1.01 if that was the case, as you say it's impossible.

One cannot compare an online petition to a physical vote where the participants have to leave there homes and walk / drive to the nearest school / townhall to vote.
If that was the case A 50 petition numbers would be hugely reduced.

the only reasonable way to judge these results is to compare them with 2014. ukip got 27% then and now brexit/ukip got 35%. hell of a stretch to presume 50% of the remaining 65% are remain votes i.e 77% of all the others

The Conservative/Labour vote collapsed much more than the last European elections though.

it does sound silly when you put it that way but elections should still be on the weekend to maximise turnout. it's even worse in the US where you have to sometimes queue for hours. of course, the areas where the biggest queues are all seem to have something in common somehow
